Deodato Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I'm in the US unexpectedly (Orange County) and apparently there is a fantastic B&M about a mile down the road... So I reckon it'd be churlish not to buy some NC's while I'm here. So if you could only have one box of NC's - what would it be? My favourite go-to sticks are BPC, PSD4, Mag 46 and Party Shorts. On a good day I'll reach for a Lancero or 898.
investandprosper Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Tatuaje Petit Cazadores Reservas are good smokes. The Padron 1926 line is a good value for the money. Stick with Tatuaje or Padron, I think that they most closely simulate the complexity of CCs. If you're in a spendy mood, Opus X Power Rangers are good too.
Puros Y Vino Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 For me Casa Fernandez Lanceros. Great NC sticks.
partifan Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Take a look at illusione as a brand, they make good cigars.
riazp Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 For me Casa Fernandez Lanceros. Great NC sticks. Agreed. I was in the states two weeks ago and I got a box of CAO La Traviata 4.5in x 50 RG..it was under 100$ for the box. Will make a good cheap cigar for bbq'ing or going for a walk or whatever. Its a pretty damn good cigar to boot
Dozerhead Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I would second the Padron's. To me the 64's and the 26's are both really good. The 64's are a little cheaper, and just as good imo, if price is an issue.
CigarAsh Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Take a look at illusione as a brand, they make good cigars. One of my favorite NC brands. Had an Illusione 88 over the weekend that was excellent.
Ophidion Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Tatuaje (anything by them is good I love the Verocu no 5) the Padron anniversarios are all really good but the 64s are the best "bang for the buck". CAO la traviatas are Ana amazingly good value if you are looking for a budget stick. Illusione 88, cg4, 888 are all really good as well. Ashton esgs are good for a more "elegant" smoke while the VSG eclipse is a better "meaty" cigar in terms of flavor/strength. Most stuff by Fuente is garbage but the opus x xxx is really good and if you can find them I suggest the anejo.
coug28 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Liga Privada T 52 Toro. Helluva smoke, and that's coming from a fairly recent, almost exclusively now, cc convert. Prefer these to Padron by quite a bit. Tatuaje 7th Reserva or Natural would be another good option. Id grab a couple/few 5'ers though over a box. Especially not knowing what it is you'll like in an NC.
mbrody Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Boxes: Illusione (as others have said) AF Hemmingway Short Story Singles: Padron 1926 or 1964 Opus X for fun
Ophidion Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Almost forgot: Don Pepin Garcia blue Don Pepin Garcia Cuban classic They are both very good.
Deodato Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Are you talking about siglo? Tobacco Barn in Lake Forest, near Laguna Woods
Styler Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 The 601 Blue and green are good (by DPG). If I could only have 1 box though and found them at a really good price I'd have a box of Padron 1964 Torpedo Natural.
iGrizz Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 CAO La Traviata Olivia V Casa Magna Any High Priced Padron Anything From Tatuaje Ashton VSG or ESG Alec Bradley Tempus & Prensado LFD Airbender My Father Illusione Epernay Arturo Fuente Opus X
Fshaw Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 One of my favorite NC brands. Had an Illusione 88 over the weekend that was excellent. x3 Epernay line is my fave
mk05 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 The transition may be a bit too much for you. I have a hard time smoking NCs nowadays. These padrons and don pepins are mucho fuerte, and personally i think most taste like ash (thats terrible for its price point!). Why dont you try some and let us know what you think? I would try to find: LFD double press or factory press (and cameroon chisel if you can find it) AF Anejo 55, 46 Henry Clay La Aroma de Cuba EE, thinnest rg you can find Tatuaje cojonu 2006 if they carry old boxes, 09 if fresh Illusione 888 claro, 68 bambone, le matin If you must try a padron, i find the 3000/6000 or the panatela to be tolerable. Haha If you want to experience an NC nicotine overload, try: Opus X LFD LG lancero, or double ligero chisel maduro Jaime Garcia Reserva petit robusto (white/blue band) these are actually good And of course no NC experience is complete without a rocky patel.
canadianbeaver Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Davidoff ... Just choose the right size and budget for you and you will be very happy. Other than Padron the only NC's that interest me anymore.
winelover Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I've tried a good few NCs and my favourites were Padron 1926 and Ashton VSG. For yard sticks the CAO Italias and Brazilias were surprisingly good. Also I once had a LFD Double Ligero Lancero and I quite liked it! Still I don't understand why Opus X are held in such high regard, I've tried more than a handful and found them all very ordinary indeed. NCs represent a welcome change of pace once in a while but being in the UK I'll stick to CCs which happen to be cheaper too. I'll always keep an open mind but why buy NCs when you can buy bolivar, partagas, montecristo etc?
Peter11216 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 x5 I recently had someone tell me the older Epernay (from Illusione) were much better than the current offerings . . . too bad they are not available anymore, b/c the Epernay line now is excellent. There is a lonsdale, "Le Grande," I believe, it would be worth picking up a cab of these. x4 Epernay line is seriously good...

The current Epernay are also excellent and get even better with age. I have at least 20 of the petite, le ferme and le Grande at all times. The ECCJ I had was a good 4 years old by the time I smoked it. Speaking of epernay I need another box of le matins. Also the 888 is a crack stick. I cant get enough of them. bbeberle Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Padron for sure I prefer the 1964 Exclusivo. The 1926 are great and the Family Reserve 85 is superb!
