Styler Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 While I enjoy a wide variety of flavour profiles when it comes to cigars, I often get an urge to smoke something with rich chocolate as a core flavour. This leaves me with a problem as the only cigars I have found offering that profile are either super premium like the Genios or limited editions. Neither my wife nor Barclaycard would thank me for burning through several boxes of these a year! Which leads me to my question: Does anyone have any recommendations for a cigar that meets the below criteria? *Core chocolate flavours in recent examples *Standard production *Average price bracket
Dbone Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 The original chocolate bomb, VR Unicos. When they're on it's like a cup of hot chocolate in a cigar. Good luck on your hunt :-)
zappaFREAK Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Totally agree on the Unicos. Just what the dr ordered!
CaptainQuintero Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Sancho Panza for me, specifically the molinos are a lovely rustic chocolate. Monte especial #2 Mag46 with a couple of years on
isa Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Have got hints of chocolate in many vitolas, but as a core flavour - not really in my experience. The Mag 48 maybe, but thats LE. Havent tried the VR unicos - damn , one more vitola to buy Monte esp 2 - thats good news, just bought a box today at the Czars
CigarAsh Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 There's an NC stick that came out last year from EP Carrillo - his new maduro - that is pure chocolaty goodness. Had them at an event when he first released them. Was the first time I really got that flavor profile out of a cigar. I've been smoking the robustos. Have about a dozen left and love them for a change of pace.
investandprosper Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Get a nice, dark box of Monte 4s or Monte 5s. Good price point, and very chocolatey with dark, oily wrappers. After hearing that about the Unicos, I'll have to try them!! John
Styler Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Many thanks for the replies guys, food for thought!
Zigatoh Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 A good HdM PR has a lovely creamy chocolate flavour, nothing dark and heavy more milk chocolate, Galaxy maybe.
MIKA27 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Mate, I would go with the following: - VR Unicos with also a touch of spice along with the chocolate. - COHIBA Secretos and or Genios. - My ultimate favourite and you will NOT find these (Ken will agree) Montecristo Series D LE 2005 EDIT: I just read the original post: Apologies: Scratch the Genios but still go the Secretos, they are still pretty cheap (We in OZ pay the most and its still cheap for us)
markmurase Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Get a nice, dark box of Monte 4s or Monte 5s. Good price point, and very chocolatey with dark, oily wrappers. After hearing that about the Unicos, I'll have to try them!! John I have found Monte 5's to be more coffee than chocolate, but one of the great things about this hobby is everyone tastes something different.
Dbone Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I have found Monte 5's to be more coffee than chocolate, but one of the great things about this hobby is everyone tastes something different. I would agree. Monte is more coffee than chocolate for myself. If anyone asks me, looking for milk chocolate in a cuban cigar I always go back to the Unicos.
Rushman Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 X2 on VR Unicos --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631662,-87.070670
beamer Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Smoking an HQ Monte4 now that definitely started with a deep chocolate flavour. Mellowed out to the typical toasty Monte4 now.
nonameno Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Hello Fellow FoHers', I have found chocolate in the H.Upmann Mag48 LE and deep chocolate cake in the Ramone Allones Extra LE. Thank you, Curtiss
cigcars Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Well, Por Larranaga has closer to honeyed maple flavor and aroma...I s'pose Montecristo No.1 and Vegas Robaina Classicos offer somewhat "chocolaty" essences
ChanceSchmerr Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Good luck finding them, but I always find a rich Milk Chocolate in a Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale. VR Unicos is rich chocolate when on, agreed on that. Various Montecristos....but they are so inconsistent for me, only the Sublimes LE delivers nearly every time Lastly - I have a PSP box of Sancho Panza Belicosos in the locker that I bought on a whim a couple of years ago....if they deliver a chocolate flavour, then it will be money well spent!!! Never tasted much Chocolate in Sanchos, To be honest.... Happy hunting, man!
Pilgrims Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Both Dark chocolate but, Bolivar Belicosos Finos & Monte Petite Edmundo are both on that spectrum for me...
nikosdoc Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I wiil agree in the BBF,and will add some aged Bolivar CG. On the lighter side try some Monte P.Edmundos. Enjoy the search man!!!!
coug28 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Monte GE - all chocolate and wood. Not sure why the fanfare for this stick, as I don't think it's worth the $$...but if chocolate is what you're after, give that a try. For a more economical choice though, and as good or better than the GE noted above, go with the VR Unicos...as others have mentioned, very nice chocolate & cream stick IMO.
Styler Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 What about the VR Famosos, does it have the chocolate of it's bigger brother?
Ophidion Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 My experience with the VR Famoso has been more of a honey core and not so much chocolate. I got a well aged box from an online vendor some time ago and they have all been amazing but not much in terms of chocolate.
CUBANO Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Had a VR Unicos in Cancun last week and defenitely had chocolate taste.
