To make a long story short, I met an old work colleague last week, last night I got offered a one year contract on quite a bit more than I'm on now. The current job is full-time permanent in a growing company making money but I'm bored and the career has stalled a bit.

The new job will be more business analysis, dealing in banking arrears (plenty of that in this country to last me the rest of my working life if I want), 1.5 hours less commute every day. that's a whole working day saved every week. I'll be home in time to actually do stuff with the kids in the evening rather than just have dinner and put them to bed. That alone is all the reason I need.

I'm supposed to give 4 weeks notice here but I'm off to Cuba on Thursday for 10 days and I'm hoping they tell me not to come back to the office.

I knew it was the right decision when I realised I was smiling on the train in this morning (Prez knows that train..), for the first time in months.

I've had worse days. :)

Best of luck to you Ryan. A change of work can be both rewarding and scary at the same time. On the logistics alone it looks like a good move. Fire up some great cigars to treat yourself. :ok: Cheers!

Hi Ryan,

This is certainly a difficult decision when you have a home and a family, and importantly, you are taking them into account too! I think you are wise beyond your years, and making a good decision for you and your family. :2thumbs:

I wish you the best of luck on your new position, and a wonderful vacation in Cuba! I can't wait to hear your news when you return.

Thank you for sharing,

Curtiss

Good luck ma man. I went through a job change a few months ago, and can seem to stop thinking that more money equals more cigars...enjoy the time with the fam, and don't worry too much about the future.

Nice one! Sounds like 100% the right thing to do, especially with having more family time I think a few weeks in and you'll wonder how you ever did your old job.

Just think how extra sweet that first cigar will be when you're kicking back in Cuba :perfect10:

If this is what makes you smile on the train in,

then it certainly must be the right decision.:D

All my best my friend.

P.S., I'm sure you'll have a great time in Cuba, please

keep us posted when you get back. Always great . :2thumbs:

In my opinion, your priorities are in the right place

Best of luck, Andy, and enjoy the ride of life.

Cheers and best wishes.

It sounds like all the right moves for all the right reasons. Sounds like a very resolute and sound decision - well done.

ALL THAT SAID....I will mention something that my Dad always taught me, and something that I've always followed. "No matter what, don't burn your bridges!" No matter how good it may feel to tell off an old boss (especially if they were not a good one), or so give everyone the one-finger-salute on the way out of the door, just don't do it. You always need a fall-back plan, or good references, or whatever. Just don't burn bridges. Be as happy and giddy as you want while crossing it, but ensure that the people you leave behind have an untarnished memory of your work performance and personality.

It's worked for me so far. Knock on wood. :football:

You only get one life (unless you are a Buddhist) so live it to the fullest. Many good wishes for success in your newest venture. I am also sure everyone else is thinking it too . . . more pay equals more cigars! Cheers Ryan!

Work to live, not live to work.

Nothing to gain without taking some risk.

Just made a job change myself. Scary, risky...but after a week I realize I made the right move. I feel better. I am excited. I am energized.

Good luck to you.
