Sorry about your luck Lise. That's pretty harsh for 11km/h over the limit! Around here they don't bother you unless you are exceeding the limit by more than that. Is that photo radar that got her? They tried pulling that stunt around here; every single person who got hit by it chose to fight the ticket in court. The court system got so backed up it would have taken them over two years to get around to your case which exceeds the time limit so they got rid of the photo radars.

Just be thank ful that Lise doesn't live here in the west ,,I got done a while back similar sort of speed ,ie over the limit $150.00 ,next jump up from that 250.00 :tantrum:

So for those in north America your speeding fines seem as cheap as your cigars :fuel::stir::hole:

OZ :cigar:

you are taking the piss.

i've just checked the "fines" site.

it is very disappointing that you would deliberately mislead your loyal customers!!!!

Fines and demerit points

When a vehicle is detected speeding by either a fixed or mobile speed camera, an infringement notice is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle (this also applies to a joint owner whose name is listed first on the record). This notice provides details of the alleged offence and includes a photograph.

The notice provides the vehicle owner with 28 days to pay the fine, elect to go to court, or nominate the driver of the vehicle. If the notice is in your name and you pay the fine, demerit points will also be accrued against your driver's licence.

Fines and demerit points for speed camera detected speeding offences are the same as for other speeding tickets.

Current penalties for speeding

  • Less than 13 kilometres per hour (km/h) over the speed limit:
    A$133 + one demerit point.
  • At least 13 km/h but not more than 20 km/h over the speed limit:
    A$200 + three demerit points.
  • More than 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h over the speed limit:
    A$333 + four demerit points.
  • More than 30 km/h but not more than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
    A$466 + six demerit points.
  • More than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
A$933 + eight demerit points and six month suspension.

Double demerit points

Double demerit points apply in Queensland to drivers and motorbike riders who commit more than one of the following speeding offences within a 12 month period:

If you commit a second speeding offence of 32 km/h over the speed limit within one year after the first offence, you will be allocated six demerit points for the second offence, plus an additional six demerit points for it being within one year after the first offence. You will have 16 demerit points allocated to your traffic history, which will result in a driver licence sanction.

Additional demerit points are also allocated for certain second or subsequent driver seatbelt offences and motorbike helmet offences that are committed within one year after the first offence. A second or subsequent offence committed within this same offence group, within one year after the first offence, will attract additional demerit points.
