Dbone Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Although I have not been at this as long as others, I have built up a great collection of cuban cigars. I've found a few particular boxes which have impressed me so much I felt the need to get another of the same box to relax and age, hoping for even better days down the road from self aging. Or maybe it's just a hoarding twitch as Piggy has called it. Some subscribe to the two box rule. I don't have more than two boxes of the same, some day I may, but these are mine: VR Unicos Monte #4 Mag 46 Partagas 898 Bolivar Royal Corona So, which cigars do you stock multiples on?
cigcars Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 *IMHO you can never have too many Cohibas, Bolivars and Partagas. And as these are so plentiful, it would do for me to have Por Larranaga and El Rey Del Mundos if I could find them in lonsdale sizes (no more, it seems)!

bassman Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Multiple cabs Boli PC & CE and Partagas Lonsdales. Multiple boxes Boli CJs, Cohiba CEs, MC#2 & #4, RASS & RASCC. Also multiple boxes of Partagas Lusis, but I'm cheating because they are boxes of 10s.

Dbone Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 A real mixed bag from your responses. Lots of Bolivar, Monte, and Partagas. Not so much Cohiba. Good call on the Lusi 10 packs bassman - that's the way to buy them. Mkz - you reminded me... I have 3 boxes of Dip 4's. I need to keep better inventory. Trying to keep it in my head isn't that reliable

PigFish Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I have refined cigar tastes. Please don't read refined as exceptional because that is not what I mean. It means I know what I like and I go for the same cigars day in and day out. I don't really care about profile, I am a smoking experience guy. I don't care what band they sport, the box they come in or how trendy the look or what size they are. I want a good cigar. I want a good cigar every time I light up. I don't really want to go into what I have but lets just say that it is more important to me to smoke the same cigar, that cigar being good, than to smoke a variety of cigars, some of them being bad. When I find exceptional cigars, I want to buy as many of them as I can afford. You can't have too many! After smoking some really ratty '10 vintage cigars in this recent tasting, I am damn glad that I have hoarded my stash of what I prefer to smoke. When I noticed the quality of '06 cigars in many sizes I went looking for '06 vintage cigars in the sizes that I like just as a hedge. You don't alway win with this stratagy but I think it has helped me more than it has hurt me. For me, owning 10 or more boxes of the same cigar is not really out of the question. I have a pretty decent pile of lonsdales, coronas, PC etc. Sometimes I see cigars as brands and sometimes I only see them as a size. I like coronas, but will see the D-3 and the Monte 3 differently. The 'name' cigar is almost always a second tier cigar to me. Good taste probability and popularity are inversely correlated, IMHO. While I won't say that one "out grows" the desire to taste every cigar I have noticed a lot of 'seasoned' smokers have a honed focus on what they like and what they want to smoke year in and year out, decade in and decade out. It has been my pleasure to make the acquaintance of many such smokers and while many are not as picky or focused on particular sizes as I am, they too are focused, they have their own rules for the individual cigars that they covet. Many don't swim in the popular pool. I would rather own, for example, 10 boxes of Lanceros, than 1 box of Robustos, 1 box of each of the Siglo line and some others. I don't own a lot of Cohibas but the ones I own are Lanceros, CE's, S-3's and Exquisitos and I own mulitiples of each cause I know that I like them and they are likely to satisfy my focus on a great smoking experience. The last box of Cohiba robustos I bought was '04 and I still have most of the box. I have actually given most of them away. I don't smoke too many robustos, but '06 was so good I tried some again. I may have the 1 box of '06 RASS that I own till the day I die! -Piggy

Dbone Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 Thank you for all the replies. It's interesting to see what other brothers have decided to stock up on. It also makes me wish I had more time and money AND storage LOL. As Mike said, and I agree, Thank you online locker! But it's not a race and over some times I'll figure out more of what I like and take stock on those. Piggy, you provided this discussion a wonderful reply on the topic. From a neat point of view, I might add. The idea of chasing after a particular vitola and vintage is interesting. You spoke of Lanceros, I have a box and they really are one of my favorite. Thing is, I like them so much I decide NOT to smoke them so I can save them LOL It's messed up I know.
PigFish Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Thank you for all the replies. Piggy, you provided this discussion a wonderful reply on the topic.... Don't I always??? The pleasure of sharing what little I know about the world.... shrinking world, of Cuban cigars is all mine amigo. Always glad to help a brother out! -Ray
maverickdrinker Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I agree with Piggy. Find some cigars that you enjoy and go long on them. Lanceros are a good example. Monte Especials and cohiba lanceros are always on my list of cigars to buy when I have mules to go to Cuba. Built up a good stock of the two. Cohiba Siglo VIs are another example of this.
