adic88 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I've only ever chain smoked premium cigars a few times in my life. And i've regretted each time i did it (though is seemed like a good idea at the time of smoking). This one night, over a game of low-stakes poker, i smoked 4 cigars in a 6 hour period, all premo sticks. A couple of robustos, a double corona and a figurado, if i recall correctly. By the end of the 4th cigar, i was sweating like a pig, my head was spinning, and i had to lie down. How did Churchill do it (as in Winston)? Have you ever chain smoked cigars?
dicko Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Most is 4 for me also, and yeah the nicotine got to me. Having said that, i normally smoke in pairs. So i will have two in a night then have a day off.

In the evenings when I relax I will typically smoke 2 and sometimes 3 (that last being a short or minuto). Although many times the wife is mooching off me so I don't get a whole cigar. Usually with cocktails or wine. I think different folks handle the nicotine differently and like anything else you will build up a tolerance if you do something often enough. I will admit that I do not like smoking more than an afternoon cigar during the day. It tends to kill my palate and ruin the evening.
Rogers72 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm ok with three of four cigars a day as long as I'm outside doing something that facilitates smoking cigars. I won't ever smoke more than two back to back but usually like to take a couple of hours in between them at least. I usually only smoke about 3 a week though so these multi-cigar days aren't common.
bc8436 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 The most cigars I've had in one day was 3. That's pretty much my maximum as I like to have some time in between smokes.
Puros Y Vino Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm lucky if I get to smoke 4 - 6 cigars a month!! . Most I've done in one sitting is 2. I take my sweet time when I do smoke. A good break in between, such as a meal or a few drinks allows me to enjoy the flavours of the subsequent cigar a lot better.
Charltonc Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I have smoked 8 fine cigars in a evening and smoke about three cigars a day.

Fortunately, I do not smoke at home, inside. Though, I do sometimes use the unfinished basement, which is sufficiently cold and dreary that it discourages me from staying down there too long. Otherwise, I would probably smoke all day, at least until my money ran out. I'm sure this quote from Mark Twain has been posted before, but your question reminds me of - and it seems appropriate to repeat it: "When I was a youth I used to take all kinds of pledges, and do my best to keep them, but I never could, because I didn't strike at the root of the habit--the desire; I generally broke down within the month. Once I tried limiting a habit. That worked tolerably well for a while. I pledged myself to smoke but one cigar a day. I kept the cigar waiting until bedtime, then I had a luxurious time with it. But desire persecuted me every day and all day long; so, within the week I found myself hunting for larger cigars than I had been used to smoke; then larger ones still, and still larger ones. Within the fortnight I was getting cigars made for me--on a yet larger pattern. They still grew and grew in size. Within the month my cigar had grown to such proportions that I could have used it as a crutch. It now seemed to me that a one-cigar limit was no real protection to a person, so I knocked my pledge on the head and resumed my liberty." - From Following the Equator, according to my google search.
olotti Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I wouldn't say that I chain smoke as in one right after the other but in a given night when I do have cigar time, which is only like 2 days a week, I can smoke 2-4 cigars depending on my mood, the weather, I seem to smoke more when I'm outside on my deck or how many libations I'm having. I like to take atleast a 30min break inbetween cigars if I plan on having more. I've found on those nights when I did smoke say 2-3 in a row by the time the third one is half way I'm pretty sick of the taste/smell by then and into the tray it goes. I finally became tired of seeing half smoked dollar bills in my ash tray so I try and space it out more now to where I know by the time I smoke the last cigar I still have the palate to finish it, so most of the time now that last cigar is a minuto.
edameff Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Whenever I chain smoke I find it leaves a "metallic" taste in my mouth...
Tarks Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 My days in Cuba usually consist of smoking between 6-10 cigars per day. Wake up in the morning and have a cigar with my morning coffee and usually smoke throughout the rest of the day. Hell, that's what I'm there for. Cigars! At home, I have cut back. I used to smoke 3 cigars per day but now, I am trying to smoke 1 per day.
jedipastor Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I've done 3, or in the course of a full day 4. But for me it's not the sickness issue, its the fact that I just don't get anything out of the cigars anymore ... my palate just can't take it.
ksblazer Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I notice that after I smoke 4 cigars. That the cigars I smoke after that don't taste as good as they should. So I try to keep it under 4 cigars on the day that I do smoke.
B.HOBS Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'll do three at most when I'm with buddies, but usually only smoke 2-3 a month. I alternate to my pipe as well, just to mix it up. I do hate the hardcore smoker's mouth the morning after though!
Ellery Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Usually smoke 1 or 2 a day. Whenever I meet up with friends etc, I'll smoke anywhere from 4-6 cigars in 8-9 hr period. After the second cigar, taste goes out the window, and by the 6th cigar, I am usually feeling a little bit ill. Thankfully this only happens once every 4 months or so.
Habanakane21 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Oh man...guilty! When I tailgate for football game...I can smoke up to 6 cigars in a 6-7 hr period. When I have BBQ at the house...4-5 over 4-5 hours.. ..and at the end....I can't even stand looking at a cigar
Fuzz Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I find that if you are going to smoke a few cigars in one sitting, it's best to have food in between. For me, nibbling all the way through kinda helps counteract the nicotine. Also, don't forget to drink plenty of water on top of any alcohol. Keeping yourself hydrated helps stave off the sweats and dizzyness.
cigcars Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 The most I usually smoke back to back would be two, and that's only on some occasions. About 4 times a year I might smoke 3 in one evening. After the 1st one, another one seldom gives me the enjoyment of the previous one. I used to drink coffee all day long. Then I found that really after the first cup, a second gives me no joy. Now it's one BIG cup of coffee daily. And usually one cuban (or sometimes other country) smoke for the day.
thechenman Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Most days when I get a chance to smoke it is only 1 cigar. With friends hanging out I can go as high as 3. On vacation, it is usually 2.
danclough Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I have smoked 8 fine cigars in a evening and smoke about three cigars a day. You must have sucked those things down! Even if they were robustos it would probably take me 12 hours to smoke 8 of them!
