Cattle Dogs? Those cigars that fly under the radar but almost always perform. Those cigars that never make a 93 on CA, seldom get reviewed if at all, those cigars that have a consistent flavour pattern that somehow you just reach for without even thinking about it.

I am with one right now. Morning cup of black tea on the deck and enjoying the company of a Bolivar Corona Junior.he has been a faithful companion for some time now. medium/.medium full, a little white pepper through the nose, earthy toasted tobacco on the palate.

Consistent, satisfying and a cigar which "turns up" time and time again.

Funny, smoking a Boli CJ at the moment and it too was the first thing that came to mind...flavor/strength sit right between the PC and CE. Great little smoke.

Unfortunately Habanos has a habit of shooting their "cattle dogs"... :(

The bolivar CJ always makes me remember my very early days of smoking Cuban cigars and travelling to Cuba to obtain them. I'm thinking the year was probably 1998 or 1999, when a friend told me to try to get some CJ's. Well I bought 5 or 6 boxes at $55.00 USD. Little did I know that they would all be confiscated by Bahamian customs officials. They only allow two boxes past their clearing house! The rest they sell to local casinos and hotels. Yes, you can get real Cubans in the Bahamas in this fashion.

A few months later, I was back in Cuba and able to sample what I'd lost. I've been a fan ever since.

Nothing like a good cup of cafe Serrano and a Bolivar CJ in the morning!

Mine is Bolivar Bonitas and flies under the radar like Kanga's choices there - also qualifies as a cheap and cheerful; all good!

No offense Bart.... but the Upmann 2 and VR Unico are not cattle dogs in my world.

Agree that HSA tends to take these dogs out back for shotgun therapy

All the small Bolivars are great, young or aged.

I've particularly enjoyed the Bonitas and the Regentes.

The Tubo #2 is really amazing!

No worries :)

I have had just plain old good luck with them since I started smoking last August, they seem to perform time and time

I have numerous years of the Upmann #2 and only a couple of different years of the Unicos.........loved them 95% of the time

I understood the question to be a cigar that performs time and time again

Its all good in the hood :)
