Can you send a better screenshot of the bar code on the seal? I'm sure you checked that, but that's a big indicator too. Some scams will reuse genuine boxes though Edit: checked the code. The outside box is legit, but as mentioned, they could have reused a genuine box.

Yeah, I would not wipe your humidor down. It could cause the wood to swell and Warp and then your humidor wouldn't seal right. If you have a cheap humidor , you could probably get away with it, but I would just be patient. If you want, some people might put a shot glass filled with distilled water inside to help season it by adding to the relative humidity for a few days. But definitely lose the foam humidification that came with your humidor, and buy beads, a Boveda pack, or something else like gel crystals online Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

I bought my wineador because the wife wanted the house at 76/78f and I wanted my cigars at 70 max, preferably 65. I have been told to never put boxes on the bottom due to drippage. We have a little one now so our house sits at 70 and i'm thinking of unplugging. That being said, i think I also need to out fans in it for circulation. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

RyJ Mille Fleurs aging
Ender1553 replied to Odessa's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
The R&J millies along with the Partagas millies are some of my "go to" cheap and cheerful cigars. I normally let them rest for up to 6 months just to get acclimated to my humidor and them smoke them until they're gone. I don't smoke a huge amount, so it might take me 2 years to go through a box of each, but they're enjoyable. Normally I'll have one and share a 2nd with a friend and they rarely disappoint. I dont notice too much of a difference between that "1 year aged" point and the box that has 3-4 that's almost empty with those. Could also be my pallate. I did luck into a box of HuHCs one time that had 4-5ys on them when I got them... those were a treat! Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk -
I really appreciate your insight. I was looking at them and all I could think was they looked really good for fakes! Hearing some other aspects that someone better informed knows about was enlightening. Only two big things I noticed... as you pointed out, i've never ever seen a legit box not have the stickers on them, where i've seen most (at least bad fakes) not have them on. Also, $25 for a box of legit cigars???

I was going to mention (as someone before just mentioned), these are quite common in woodworking - wood moves as humidity changes, so a wood worker will look to have a board be at a similar level as what it will wind up being when it's finished. That way when they use tools to make it a nice straight board, it doesn't warp when the finished table is moved. It'd really suck to build a kick-ass humidor, but then when it's moved have the lid not close because something warped a little.

As far as a C&C goes, I've had good luck with the Monte #5s ROTT and they fit the bill if you're able to get them for a deal. HUHCs also do the trick, and I'm a fan of the millie fleurs (either R&J or Parti), though it feels like they sometimes need a month or two. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

NCs comparable to CCs
Ender1553 replied to FHFinster's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I actually have been enjoying Warped cigars... they have a lot of the nice creamy-ness I associate with CCs. Someone actually recently published a review of one of my favorites... the "La Colmena" -
I will say, I almost only smoke CCs now, but if i'm not going to smoke a CC, Warped is one of my favorites! I appreciate the review on this cigar - it lets me compare your tasting notes to what I feel like i'm getting! I do agree that it seems like that particular cigar didn't really change much between thirds, but that cream was delicious for me! This particular cigar is one of the reasons why I bought a nubber and gave me hope that I could find a tasty NC that (to me) was similar to a CC in a reasonable price range (reasonable as in not Siglo price range)!

Freezing cigars
Ender1553 replied to Gorangutang's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I don't order NCs very often and usually don't freeze those. I do freeze all my CCs though. I generally prefer at least 1 day in the fridge post as i'm in a slightly higher humidity environment and want to avoid condensation. I've also been told you don't need much time at 0F/-18C as i think 12 hours will do it, though I always give it at least 24 hours (really, 3 days normally in case there is temp inconsistency). I've also been told if you have eggs, they WILL hatch regardless of temp. They just prefer warmer so will hatch sooner. They'll generally hatch within 9 mo, so the thing to do would be quarantine for 12 mo before mixing with the rest of your stock (if you don't want to freeze). Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk -
So, this post is in the vein of what El Presedente posted, but with a little twist... My wife and I are expecting our first (a boy!) within the next 24 hours and I was looking at buying ONE box that I could put back for him, as something he could hand out to his groomsmen at his wedding, or some other special event. But, in essence, i'm looking for a box that will have legs enough that in 20 years it will be a stellar cigar, not one that we realize we should have enjoyed 15 years prior. Any good suggestions? Some consistent recommendations I saw were: 898s CoRos Ds Sir Winston's Siglos BBFs But of course, while they all sound fantastic, I'm looking for just one... and needs those long legs... THANK YOU! If you’re planning on having active humidity, I’d put green board up. Or, you could use hardiboard. If you’re going through the expense of adding all that cedar, the drywall is pretty nominal (just a few sheets... more the labor than materials. As far as a moisture barrier goes, it probably couldn’t hurt. I think of it like cheap humidors that leak through the bottom... the tighter you can make it, the less it’ll leak and the more stable it will be. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

What jumps out to me about the fake coros is how the point of the head is messy compared to a legit band Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

What jumped out to me on the first set of pics was the cap... I couldn't quite tell with the darkness of the wrapper, but it looked like what I think I've been told is a double cap. The cap on the legit one looked gorgeous and is what i'm used to. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

COHIBA ROBUSTO RESERVA COSECHA 2014 Real or Fake?
Ender1553 replied to UnionCityCubano's topic in Suspect Cigar Forum
Ah, missed that until I went photo by photo... that shiny logo threw me off. Honestly, these are probably beyond my ability to tell whether they're real or not (at least, from the photos I looked through). Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk -
COHIBA ROBUSTO RESERVA COSECHA 2014 Real or Fake?
Ender1553 replied to UnionCityCubano's topic in Suspect Cigar Forum
Honestly, huge red flag to me that the HSA doesn't check out. I've been told that it will always check out. I've also been told its Cuba, and mistakes get made. I've also heard that fakes are most often presented as reserves. These at least were actually produced. All the boxes I've bought have all had the date and factory code stamped vs lt being on a label, including the 5x5 with metal tins. But, I'm not positive it's always that way. The box you mentioned is also supposed to be numbered, but I didnt see that in any of your photos. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk -
I did not know that about the point on the head, that was something completely new to me! Is that true for all cohibas? I was also wondering about the nice holograms from a cigar that’s supposed to be from 2004. By “veins,” I meant that the wrappers didn’t look like they were premium cigars... I’ve enjoyed Nicaraguan 2nds that had better looking wrappers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

For my own edification, what jumps out at you? (I’m trying to learn better myself how to spot fakes... best thing I do is simply always always always buy them from a reputable source so I don’t have to worry) Buuut, from what I learned, a few things jump out at me: 1) they look way to veiny to be “premium” cigars 2) fakes are very frequently “limited editions” (and I think 2004 is a common one?) 3) did they offer sublimos in ‘04 for them even to exist? 4) one I’m uncertain about... 13 cigars in what I think would be a 10 cigar box? Or, it’s the top 13 of a 25ct box of cigars that I thought came in a 10x. Beyond that, I can’t really comment on the bands... I’m sure they look fake, but they look nice enough to me. Again, I’m just trying to learn better how to spot what’s wrong! What all jumped out to you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
