Were you lucky enough to pick up the Double Corona Sampler from a recent 24:24 a week ago? Aroma - excellent, Construction - fantastic, Smokability - irresistible! 2 x Ramon Allones Gigantes, 2 x Punch Double Corona, 2 x Partagas Lusitanias, 2 x Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro and 2 x Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona. I had to have the RA Gigantes ROTT - simply bliss!

'16 Reyes ROTT, bumpiest from the top row. At the one-year point not yet there, but very good stick already. Well built, compact and firm roll with my preferred snug draw. A slow burner. Great value for money when at this level.

07 RyJ Exh. 4 from a 50 cab. Quite nice. I should try the Exh. 3 sometime. Frigging Tapatalk seems to think my cigar pics are d... pics - refuses to upload them.

Been a while since my last post. Here are some of the highlights since last, I hope in order: - La Escepcion Selectos Finos. Final third was by far the best, even amazing, the earlier parts disappointing though. - Dona Flor. Brazilian puro. A bit of a surprise, did not have high hopes but definitely worth to pick up a five pack. Very well balanced and flawless construction. - Diplomaticos ER Cuba. I made a thread complaining about these a while back but this one actually smoked alright (from the same box). Quite a lot of strength, especially finishing up. - Upmann Sir Winston (2012). Amazing. - Opus #5 (2008). Classic X, prune and cinnamon. Daaaark wrapper and a lot of ligero that is still kicking. - Partagas Presidentes (2005). With the exception of the first half inch, these are smoking beautifully. Partagas DNA but subtle complexity and fine changes. - Viaje Green Biohazard. Too strong for me but I could see how people would like this. Smoked slow and picked up some nixe flavors. - Vega Robaina ER Andorra. I like these things for a short but attentive smoke. Picadores after a 14 hour day in the shop. My back was killing me last night...

Eco warrior logic, that .... They hate combustion, and they never think about the ramifications and drawbacks. They cycle to work and to the shops, never bothering to think what it takes to keep those stores stocked with their free range organic macro-biotic gluten-free fair-trade vittles. They think electricity can be had from wind and sun, but never stop to consider what happens when the wind dies and the sun goes down. They like electric vehicles but it never occurs to them to ask what is involved in actually manufacturing all those batteries. They live in high density urban environments and have no clue how life works out in the countryside. And they only start to ask those questions once diesel-powered lorries are no longer on the roads to deliver their free-range tofu, when green tax fuel surcharges on air travel mean they can no longer go on those scenic cycling holidays in countries where people still live in tune with nature (aka "starve"), and when we all have to live with Soviet-style electricity curfews. And to top it all off, they fully and confidently expect the state to pay for it all because they have never grasped the connection between productivity and tax revenues. Personally, I have worked the numbers. By 2040 I will be 74 ... so I can go out and buy myself a brand-new Aston Martin in 2039 and drive it until I die. And if I still feel cranky then, I will take off the exhaust filters when I get it.

A couple of bottles of an interesting looking release called 'Vega': A 23 year old blended malt (pure malt) that has been bottled unchill-filtered and at cask strength from a vatting consisting of a number of single malt whiskies that have been matured in sherry and bourbon casks. Bottled by the young independent bottlers: North Star Spirits for their 'Limited Edition No. 1' series - judging from the colour, it would appear that there is a healthy proportion of sherry cask matured malt used in its makeup. These bottles are two of the 400 bottles available worldwide. Something totally left field, a couple of ceramic flagons of Stone's Original Green Ginger Wine that was specially released to commemorate their 275th anniversary: Yes - I got these because of the ceramic flagons.

The industry needs to communicate the plan and data better, that's for sure. But there's a mountain of detail and that will never make the news. Only those who are interested will engage with the data and be educated enough to render an opinion. The rest of the population will complain that there's apparently no plan, or if there is a plan, then the idiots didn't consider this problem, or that problem. Because if they *had* then their favorite news network or talking head would have said so, right? ... On the whole, I'm very glad to see more people really listening to the data and setting a bold direction -- even if some of the details need to be worked out. It still may be too little too late, because the world is full of scientific illiterates, and because humanity lacks the coordination to avoid game theory penalties among nation-state players.
