  6. Our first trip from London (aside from a side trip to Bath, Wells, Cheddar and Stonehenge) was a few delightful days in the south of France to visit mon ami Guy (laficion). We had a really wonderful time with Guy and his wife, and Guy also took me to his favourite local B&M. I think the shopkeeper is now a fan of mine... First up - I'm no Fonseca fan, but I thought - a 10 box of RE's ? What the hey. Fonseca Amateurs RE Francia. Then, I noticed the big Kahunas...the Bolivar Liberatadores, the RE's from 07/08. I pounced on all he had - a part box and a couple of lighter-shade wrappers from a different box than he had in the singles drawers. After that...I pretty much raided his singles drawers for whatever RE's he had. I bought out pretty much his remaining RE stock. Some ones I didn't think I'd find...even though some I wanted to find (the JL minuto, the QdO RE's) weren't there. Oh yeah, and he had one solitary Partagas LE form 2004. Not letting that one go by! Yoink! How about some Punch Small Clubs REs? I hate the petit Robustos, but I'll try these for a larf. Those ERDM Petit Companias looked like lovely companions. These RA Especiales RE's were a real find, I'm excited to try these ones. I guess I bought so many that the shopkeeper gave me this tattered JL Obus RE for free (I wasn't going to buy it, regardless. Pretty beat up. It's probably smoke fine though). He also gifted Guy a Boli RE as well, he seemed like quite the swell fella. France was awesome!!! Big thanks again to Guy for hosting us while we were there

  11. Hey Guys, I will try my best to chronicle my time in London and subsequent travels in a separate thread, but here's what you probably really want to see - the Cigars I've been able to pick up! First, Cigars found in various London B&M's, before I ventured out beyond the UK! Here's some Aged Tubos - An aged Upmann Monarch, A Boli Churchill (never thought I'd see one!), an 80's Romeo tubo No.2, and an 80's Punch Petit Coronations. I've only smoked the Boli Churchill...middling smoke, sadly. At least I won't have to go buy more! How about a nice lineup of aged/rare cigars? From left, a 1995 Upman...Super Corona? I'd have to go back and see what it was. Maybe it's just a Corona. It was from '95, that's for sure. 2000 Sancho Corona, 2014 Sancho Non Plus (to see how they are now), 2 Upmann Coronas from '02, 2 Punch Tres Petit Coronas with a Punch Margarita in between, a Punch Corona from a 50 cab and 2 aged SP Molinos. Smoked one of the Molinos - I need to get a box of them LOL. Oh, and a RA Gigantes from '01 across the bottom. Continuing - a '97 Monte No. 3, 3 Ramon Allones Coronas, 3 Partagas 898 Unvarnished. Last three are my all-time faves, the SLR PC from a 50 cab. If these are good, I'm going for the rest of the cab. Some REs! JL Selección Suprema RE, Sancho Panza Quixote RE from Spain, a rare PL Legendarios RE (there were two but I smoked one with Guy - will push HARD to find a box of these now), an RA Petit Belicoso, and an RACF (the RA band slipped off on my way home....that's ok) Last but not least - a Half box of Partagas Coronas from 2002. LOVE these, got the half box on first sight. Smoked one, they are excellent.

  12. I touched base with a member in the last week who was having a pretty tough time. Family, employment, finances, booze. mentally he was in a bad way. I had no idea. If stats are right, dependency (and/or/+) depression happens to half of us (to varying degrees) over the course of a lifetime. For those who have been here for some time and have interacted with a member who has dropped off the radar for an extended period of time, drop them a PM or e-mail with a "How are you, what's happening". It takes little time on your part. It can make a huge difference to others who may just be having a hell of a time. Of course they may just have better things to do! Still, there is nothing to lose and potentially you are opening a line of communication that can make a real difference.

  13. Just came back from my trip to Europe. This time is primarily for my GF's birthday so not everything was cigar related as I wanted it to be, however I tried my best to squeezed some smoking time into the itinerary: Smoked a Quai D'Orsay on Quai D'Orsay in Paris, smoked one in high altitude up on the Pyrenees mountain range, visited the elaborated LCDH in Amsterdam, and of course crazy shopping side trip to Andorra! This post is entirely built up on Chris' original Andorra Report few years back. Without Chris I wouldn't even know such a magical place exists. By no means this is a guide but I want to share my experience, so when you ever decide to go it will be a smooth and pleasant trip for you. I visited two towns in Andorra for cigars, Pas de la Casa as well as Andorra la Vella, these are the two towns you want to make a stop if you want to do major shopping. However if you do not have too much time or you are entering from the Spanish border, it is possible to skip Pas de la casa. *Due to forum rules I cannot disclose the name of the cigar vendor, if you are interested please drop me a PM Getting there: On Friday morning we started our journey from Perpignan, France. We took the N116 westward going towards Andorra. Total time for the trip should be around 2:30 hrs, depending on how fast you drive. First half of the trip is a flat, 2-lane freeway, passing through small town once in a while then you need to decelerate to 50km/h, it's a comfort drive. Once you see the big fortress on your right you'll know it's mountain road time! We passed by Mont Louis (great scenery and if you have time I strongly encourage stopping the car and take a few photos), we also cut through Llivia by accident but it was a nice surprise (visited an enclave/exclave - checked). After some more driving inside the valley you know you'll be getting close, there you have two options: To enter the tunnel straight to Andorra la Vella, or skip the tunnel to reach Pas de la Casa. We didn't take the tunnel because we want to go to the nearby Pas de la Casa for lunch and cigar shopping. After some more hairpin turns and hill climbs we reached the border, going into Andorra wasn't a problem at all, the authorities only asked where we are from and let us pass. Pas de la Casa is a small town with an emphasize on cosmetic/perfumerie, fashion, and tabac/liquor shop. We just parked in the "town centre" near the big roundabout, 3 minutes walk to the cigar store and parking is free to boot. Cigar shopping time! Compared to all of you I am just a newbie, so you will probably have a better eye to spot all those exotic stuff. I will let the photos speak. There's only one staff when I walked in, Jose speaks perfect English and knows a ton about his products. Note that in Andorra there will always be a staff that accompany you inside the humidor, don't feel pressured as they think it is a symbol of professional service to help out their client to pick and export their top 3 boxes of cigar, if you have any questions about cigars and a particular box please feel free. My GF knows that I needed mass concentration in this sea of treasures so she took the initiative and talk with the accompanying staff whenever we're in the humidor. All of them seem to find Canada fascinating and will go on and on with my GF regarding that topic Haul from this store: RyJ Short Churchill jar (interestingly jars have the same price as boxes, so I couldn't resist), Juan Lopez Seleccion No 5 Andorra Regional, Bolivar Panetelas box date Mar, 99, one RA Andorra Regional to smoke during lunch *Something interesting I have noticed, Andorra shops loves to give out freebies along with your purchases. I got a bunch of free lighters/cutter with my cigar purchases. The GF got a bunch of perfume samples and tote bags and they make good souvenirs. Lunch: There's a restaurant nearby the cigar store (I think it's called La Residencia), food is alright, but has a big patio that lets you smoke your newly purchased singles. That's it for Pas de la Casa, next stop is Andorra la Vella. Shopping experience was amazing and we visited twice. Stay tuned.

  18. Good point. Any cigar can be square pressed, but only the most awesome cigars can be diamond pressed. It's like a 45 degree difference.

  20. So the wife embarked on a 5 week journey mostly in Mexico but is spending the night in Cuba tonight. She is staying at the normal casa in Miramar and since I have nothing better to do I thought I would smoke a cigar that the owner of said casa gifted to me sometime back. Its not the prettiest example and its details are unknown to me. Its roughly 56x6. For the record by now she is likely at El Aljibe and I will be eating leftovers. Being paired with some Diplomatico Rum (Venezuela) and water. Cold draw is mild earth and a medium draw. I will be back shortly with more updates.

  26. Thanks alot! I'm very happy with how these look and smell compared to the first ones i got which also happend to be the first box i bought here in Canada. Those were pale and super tight, though the majority of that box tasted great. Very exicted to light one of these when they're ready.

  37. I don't even have 5 years in this so I don't qualify to answer but will for fun anyway . There are just too many to try that if I have even a couple that I am not fond of I will move on. Sometimes even a real bad single will ruin it for me. That is not to say that I will never try it again but it will be a while before I go back. I am around 3-5% into what I have tried in the regular production sticks so a lot of fun yet to be had.

Boy am I glad I did! HQ Robusto Sampler, glorious selection of sticks - One of the best looking D4s Ive seen, La Casas included. The Bolis aint bad either!
