bolivr Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Well what a day. It was my last day working for GM. I have known for some months that I was to be made redundant from my job because I chose to take a separation. I knew I had to make a major move at this time in my life, it was a now or never type thing. So I started job hunting as you do when there is a family to feed. I had been targetting work in Geelong which made things a lttle tougher, not as many opportunites as Melbourne and so forth. Well this morning I landed a job offer, one a little better than what I had been on. What a relief. So then the day was spent happily saying goodbye to friends and colleagues and wishing them all the best after 14 years in the company. Quite a big day, all the range of emotions you expect from elation to a kind of sadness; not flood of tears stuff but you know, leaving comfortable surroundings for who knows what i guess. Then mid afternoon comes the kick in the teeth. My youngst son has appendicitis. So now its half past 8 at night and I am watching over the little fellow as he sleeps the anaesthetic off. Wow. Some days just give you a big shake and put the rest of life in perspective. Tomorrow i'm digging out one of those old Party 898Vs and I am going to Enjoy that smoke my friends.

Great to hear your son is on the mend! You must be relieved. Congratulations on the new job as well!!
thechenman Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Glad to hear your boy is doing well. It is always weird leaving a job wondering when and if you will ever see these people again, especially if you are moving to a different city or state. However, it must be easier when you know you are moving on to something. Good luck with the new position.

Tampa1257 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Thank goodness your son is going to fully recover and all is going well as can be expected. Congratulations on the "New" job and not having to move. Enjoy the Partagas 898 and I hope it is full of spice and pepper and earth. Stans up to the memory and makes a new one for you!
Ken Gargett Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 congrats on the job and good news re your son. trust me, better he have it out now than find yourself in a foreign country with inept doctors (told you guys i hated montreal) and a misdiagnosed appendix that goes gangrenous. long time ago but i always think it a good thing when kids have had it out. our you could always do what a nutter fishing mate of mine did - just had it out in case it caused a problem and he was stuck in the bush. enjoy the smoke.
