anacostiakat Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Did you all sing Kumbayah? Firm embrace? Group hug? Rob? Ken? Smithy?
cabaiguan juan Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 mine was electric, unless it was inbetween the hours of 1AM to 8AM
anacostiakat Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 mine was electric, unless it was inbetween the hours of 1AM to 8AM That should quelsh any Nancy Boy rumors that might occur John.
El Presidente Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 The family turned off all lights in the house. I vetoed turning off the TV as the Rugby was on. Daughter complained that I wasn't serious about saving the planet. To compensate for the hour the TV was on, I decided that my daughter should walk to school every day this week. I won't hear a peep out of her at next year's "Earth Hour"
Jimmy2 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I had the lights on bright as can be bunch of tree huggers who makes up these silly things.
FlyFishingDude Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Tree Huggers! Just like PETA spokeswoman Pam Anderson, "I don't eat meat". Well from the video I saw, that is not entirely a true statement....
ehdg Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Didn't phase me one bit. I kept the lights and tv on here. Even had music playing to put my daughter to sleep.
Shelby07 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I think the good folks who are advocating shutting the lights off should remember to drive with their headlights switched off tonight.
Chicago Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I'm savings my hours up until I am dead and then I will keep my lights off for good.
Fuzz Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Tried to put on a big laser lightshow, with big neon signs and floodlights, to emphasize the importance of Earth Hour. Strange how my local council vetoed that idea...
zuma Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 You bunch of dinosaurs. We made a nice evening out of it... got together with some friends and their kids, switched off all the lights, TVs, computers... Sat around candles, having soup, telling stories with the kids... ended up with everything switched off for longer... and sacrificing some 2006 Trini Reyes (BTW, they were bloody fantastic full-on smokes)... I know, it is just a bloody token gesture that makes no difference in the great scheme of things... like being kind to someone who one is unlikely to see ever again. IMHO, such acts have only an intangible value to those that do'em, and that can only be appreciated with a certain spirit (if you believe in the existence of such a thing) or frame of mind... Nevertheless, it had an enormous educational and fun value for our kids, who greatly enjoyed it... we may even do it a night every month... naturally, the cigar smoking ritual is "de rigor"
MIKA27 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 The family turned off all lights in the house. I vetoed turning off the TV as the Rugby was on. Daughter complained that I wasn't serious about saving the planet. To compensate for the hour the TV was on, I decided that my daughter should walk to school every day this week. SethG Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I had a few friends over (made them leave the lights on at their house), turned on every light on in the house and the washer and dryer, with no clothes. Turned on the microwave for an hour with nothing in it and then the TV and stereo plus PS3 and XBOX 360. I'm pretty sure I was able to nullify some of those who conserved. Then we went outside and smoked some Magnum Especial's while discussing the absurdity that the US would emit 15% of the worlds carbon content from coal fired power plants because Gore and his B.S. circle would deny us Nuclear power. Then we joked for 20 minutes about how we had installed Nuclear reactors on our Carriers and Subs and at least the rest of the world got to enjoy that little gift from us!
kilroy Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I was passed out at my desk but I made sure all the lights were on, the oven was on, heather's curling iron, a couple of hair dryers, the dishwasher, microwave, the TV and some plug in the wall back massager Heather keeps by the bed... all on.
laficion Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I celebrated Earth hour too, I shut off all the lights in the house, but, we also had to change our clocks in France and move up 1 hour. It wasen't easy in the dark so I grabed the first thing I could, I hope I did good Having the right time is important. ¨^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^
bassman Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Turned my 100 watt Roland Super Cube amp up to 11 & played along with a Chili Pepper CD!
sounddust Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I found out that table torch lighters do not illuminate well.
PigFish Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 earth hour... didn't get the memo! If did I would have tossed it. If I did not toss it I would have not read it anyway. If I did read it I would have done what Jimmy did! I need every chance I can to stand out!!!! Remind me next year to do the same thing! Kinda makes you wonder if Al Gore's pilot pulled the power down and shut down the fans on the G5 during the event; just wondering!
Mr Peales Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Wow! I didn't get the memo. So cigar smokers are angry anti-environmentalist. You should be smoking your cigars at both ends too.
SethG Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Wow! I didn't get the memo. So cigar smokers are angry anti-environmentalist. You should be smoking your cigars at both ends too. Well, the problem is that some of us just aren't on whatever mailing list that sends out the thought-script for environmentalists. Since we had to arrive at our own conclusions, it was obvious to us that the whole concept was silly. Which leaves us a moment to reflect on the hilarity of 5% or less of American's even knowing what earth hour was, something less than that even caring and then reading the news and enjoying the fact that a bunch've americans had spread the world and built the whole deal so that *everyone else* would conserve for an hour! That's why I smoked a cigar with my buddies, that leaning back and laughing while Gore (American) flies around the world in his private jet, convinces everyone to save but us and then gets a nobel prize from everyone else while we don't even bother ratifying Kyoto (but the world never bothers complying anyways). That's the kind of stuff that goes best with a good cigar....
