Okay I received the first shipment of the H Upmann Monarchs but before everyone gets excited the first lot have already been allocated to those who contacted me or have been on the waiting list for awhile. AFAIK the sir Winston is the same blend. It would seem, effectively, the monarcas were simply rebranded. I think @JohnS was the one who told me this. 

Whaddoiknow, though? HUs have never been my cuppa tea ?‍♂️

Hardly the same blend...  Monarchs were my main cigar for until they dried up.

How different were the Tang Monarch and the H Upmann Monarcas?

There was a post that Rob put up earlier in the year asking what cigar you'd bring back. I've never had one but read how much everyone enjoyed the Tang Monarch so I chose that. I figured the closest cigar to it would be the regular production Monarcas and I was lucky enough to pick one up in a recent box pass! Saving it for a special occasion.

I am glad and lucky to get a box of H.Upmann Monarch A/T "GTL MAY 07".  I have not smoked one yet but plan on soon.

Also, I still have five left from a box of H.Upmann Monarch A/T from 1998 "JM OCSU" that I am saving for a very special occasion, i.e., my daughter's wedding or first grandchild if I am lucky enough to still be alive then.

I thought  Monarcas were the tubos and Monarchs (both Upmann) were dress boxes?  Same cigar.

I think Alexander Groom, who runs Cuban Cigar Website, gave me a Tubo Monarch from 2008. I think I smoked it late last year or early this year. After around 10 years, yes the blend had settled a lot, it had some similarities to the Sir Winston when youthful, but in their youth (i.e the Monarch), yes, they were a different blend.

The Monarchs really were a fabulous stick... I'm trying to smoke my last box as slowlyyyyy as possible, but it's not easy!
