Popular Post LizardGizmo Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I was just standing in front of my humidor trying to decide what to smoke...scanning...thinking...debating... It's no secret many of us have migrated away from regular inclusion of Cuban cigars in our daily/weekly/monthly rotation - by choice or otherwise. I've gone from two or three Cubans a day to one or two a month. Reaching for them is just not a priority for me right now - certainly helped by the discovery of a lot of the excellent non-Cuban stuff over the last few years. The reasons - affordability, consistency, availability, replaceability, etc. - are all in play. As you think about where - say 3 or 5 or 10 years ago - a Cuban would have slotted in your rotation, which non-Cuban cigar has regularly taken its spot away? A few of my slots I've found to have changed: The First of the Day - H Upmann Magnum 46 or Punch Punch replaced by Aladino 85th Anniversary Robusto The Second of the Day - RASS or Cohiba Siglo V replaced by Bond Roberts Dalia The Hall of Famer - Partagás D4, or Montecristo Number 2 replaced by Fab5 Robusto Trinity The Big-Meal Follow-Up - Partagás Lusitania, 8-9-8 or Sir Winston replaced by Padron 80 Years Maduro or Bond Roberts 109 The Saturday Morning Special - Cohiba Robusto or Lancero replaced by Stoic Equanimity Wisdom or Puro Desnudo Ninfas The "I Want Something Different Today" -H. Upmann No. 2 or Punch Double Corona replaced by Perdomo Legacy Nicaraguan Shade Grown Epicure The Big Celebration - aged H. Upmann Sir Winston or Vegas Robaina Clasico replaced by Padron 60th Maduro or Kelner LE80 The Super Bowl/World Cup Final Cigar - Montecristo A replaced by Bond Roberts Fenomenos Just to be clear, I am not saying an Aladino 85th tastes like a Magnum 46 or that Cohiba Robusto tastes like an Equanimity. The slot has simply been taken over by a new entrant. I'm sure I'll think of more, but I really am curious if and how the FOH regular rotations have changed. 11
Popular Post JDoughty Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I don't really have slots so much as I smoke as many cigars as I can fit into my greedy face hole in the time I have to smoke, starting with the lighter sticks and ending with the heavier ones. Some days that's four or five cigars. Some days it's one or two or none. I like to start with a nice Cuban, often a cheap and cheerful, but other sticks in my semi regular rotation include Monte 4 and 5. These days I'm mostly hitting up a Sovereign Sun or Magnum 44 or something else tasty from the Fabrica 005 lineup to start with, then moving on to something yummy from Casdagli or Casa Carillo or whatever else looks tasty at the lounge I'm at. Midway through I might hit an LFD, very fond of the Andalusian Bull, the Solis and the Volcada. Towards the end, any Padron - my favorite is the #35 - or a Liga Privada #9. If I know I only have time for one, I might just do the LFD, Liga 9 or Padron and be done. 5
Popular Post zacca Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I’m still in the experimentation phase with NCs for the last year now. I’ve gone through probably 100 different sticks. Some highly recommended, others I stumbled upon randomly. Some have been fantastic, others have been among the worst things I’ve tasted in my life. Some standouts off the top of my head: Daytime: Epernay, Isla de Cocodrilo, MOFOH (sovereign suns, corta suave), Nudies Queen Corona, Cavalier Geneve (white series), Aladino Cameroon, Aroma de Cuba (various), DT&T Sobremesa Blue LE, AG Prince Dinner / late night: Fuente Don Carlos personal reserve, Davidoff Winston Churchill (regular and late hour), Cavalier Geneve (black series), BR petit 109, Byron, Bandolero, Padron 1964 Principe Of course I’ll still mix in a fair amount of CCs, but definitely at a slower clip. 6
Popular Post JPark3 Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I smoked NCs before I got ahold of CCs, so before I mainly smoked Padrons, primarily the 2000/3000 and 64 Lancero/Principe/Exclusivo Maduros. Also included are the AF Don Carlos and 858 Maduro, Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Petit Corona, and Olmec. After I found FOH, the Nudies and MOFOH have taken a major place in my humidors. Right now from the ones I've had, I'm favoring the Churchill, Spada Gorda, Ninfa, Sovereign Suns, and Queen Corona. Mag 44 and Corta Suave likely making spots in the rotation as well. I've never separated certain cigars for different parts of the day, instead just going for whatever I'm in the mood for. 6
Popular Post Capn_Jackson Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 BBF, BPC, PD5, PD4, Party Shorts, JL1 and JL2, RASS, RAS, RASCC, Vegas Robaina Famosos, Monte 4s, Punch Short, Connie 1s, HdM Petit Robusto, and Epi 1s used to be my two-a-day smokes. CoRos and Sig-IV used to be the special occasion cigar. The past few years I’ve held those back and taken to other things I’ve found that I like, and are more replaceable. Padron 1964 naturals I have smoked for years and continue to. The Hermoso and Pyramide are my favorite of them. Warped Futuro, Aladino Classic and Cameroon, and the Vintage Lancero have been some of my go-to in the last year. MOFOH Spada Gorda, Nudies Lancero and Piramide. Ninfa. Illusione Haut 10, Fume d’Amour, and Original Documents ~88~ have also been backbone cigars over the last few years. Another that has become a trusty…Curivari Seleccion Privada Coronations Cazadores is my favorite from the Curivari brand. Also the Cafe 52, and the Reserva Limitada Classica Epicures have been great, as well as the Gloria de Leon line and BV500. Johnny-Os of all vitolas. Tatuaje Havana VI. Don Pepin Garcia Original Lancero. Guillermo Leon WCD 126th Lancero (wish I’d bought more when they were around!) Viaje Oro perfectos. GotF Apollo Seleccion de Warped. Crowned Heads Capa Especial. None of these “taste” exactly like CCs, and most don’t exactly emulate the CC terroir or experience. Some come close, while others are far from it, but they have served me well. 7

Great list, thanks for sharing. I'm right there with you on 90% of what you listed. The Curivari Selection Privada Coronations Cazadores and the Gloria de Leon selections are so under the radar but are consistently amazing. Aladino Vintage Lanceros and the Illusione Epernay line occupy some space in my humidors, too. And LOVE Johnny-Os too! I'm pretty much hoarding my Habanos now and might smoke 1-2 a month now. 4 1
Popular Post TheCigarSoldier Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 The First of the Day - RASS replaced by Aladino Classic Robusto or Avowed Cigars New Dawn Toro The Second of the Day - D4 or replaced by the Stoic Courage or Fab5 Robusto Trinity The Hall of Famer - Cohiba Siglo VI or Montecristo Number 2 replaced by Aging Room Concerto Maestro, La Cigar Collective's House Blend Gris Gris Lonsdale, or Gellis Family Cigars Piece Unique The Big-Meal Follow-Up - Partagás Lusitania, 8-9-8 or Sir Winston replaced by Padron 80 Years Maduro or Bond Roberts 109 The Saturday Morning Special - Cohiba Robusto or Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Especial replaced by Aladino 85th Anniversary Robusto, Fab5 Churchill The "I Want Something Different Today" -H. Upmann No. 2 or RYJ Churchill replaced by Stoic Wisdom, My Father Blue, Padron Family Reserve 50th Natural, The Big Celebration - aged LGC MDO2 or Aged Cohiba replaced by Gellis Family Cigars Piece Unique, Kelner LE80, or Padron 50th Anniversary The Super Bowl/World Cup Final Cigar - Partagas Lusitania replaced by Stoic Equanimity Wisdom. All of these new world cigars have changed my life. None necessarily come close to replicating taste of their Cuban counterparts pound for pound from a flavor standpoint. But, they certainly replicate the feeling and experience of the original rotation with the notable exception of the construction issues! Omission: I have yet to try the BR Dalia but can easily see that slotting into the Hall of Famer / I want Something different today category. All this said it's no secret a handful of brands pop up multiple times throughout this list. I love having a core rotation but it's a good reminder to continue branching out as you never know when you'll stumble into the next brand that has a line up of all stars to enter the rotation. 5
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I’m also a cigar for the mood smoker. There aren’t any NCs that have replaced any particular CCs but they’ve added to the library of selected choices. I’ve been a big fan of Honduran and Dominican cigars for a long time so I keep adding from those catalogs. Because of that and not surprisingly, Fab 5 dominates my NC menu. 5
Montezüma Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I miss the Siglo IV. Haven't had one since the hyperinflation. Haven't replaced it, maybe one day. 1 1
my happy place Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I've been smoking mostly NC's with an occasional Cuban mixed into my rotation, as I’ve been building up my Cuban stockpile over the years. Fortunately, I now have a lot more Cubans than NC’s. My usual go to CC has been the BBF, Monte 2,3,4’s and Double Edmundo, Parti Lusi and Mille Fleur, JL 1s and 2s, PLPC, RAS, and anything Trinidad and Cohiba whenever I can pick them up. As for my NC rotation, these are the ones I keep boxes/bundles of… Arturo Fuente - Don Carlos Belicoso, Anejo no 55, Don Arturo Destino al Siglo de Familia Plasencia - Alma Fuerte Nestor, Alma del Cielo Celeste, Reserva Original Churchill La Flor Dominicana 25th Anniversary Warped La Colmena Amado No 44 Padron Family Reserve 96 Maduro Bond Roberts - 109 Linea D No 1, Petit 109 Linea D No 6 Fabrica5 - Queen Corona, Sovereign Sun, and Canonazo 4
Popular Post ElLoboLoco Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 All I can really say is this, after 30 years of smoking, I am done chasing new blends to mimic a Cuban cigar. It’s an utter waste of energy to match the terroir. Accept that and move on is my opinion. So, I did accept that and have built a rotation for myself that works for my tastes. 1. Cubans and Farmies 2. Illusione Epernay, fume d’amor 3 Padron ‘64 Natural 4. Bond Roberts 5. Tatuaje Browns 6. LFD, they don’t have the same wildness of nic ligero and have a unique fermentation funk I like. Twang if you will 7. Wildcard slot for variety. 4 1
JDoughty Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I mean, CCs are very good when they are on point. Which they aren't always. But sometimes I want to feel like I've actually smoked a good strong solid cigar, and not a lot in the CC catalog hits that mouth filling, fully satisfying, taste bud saturating spot. Bolivars come close. But most CCs are complex, flavorful, light and elegant. Which is great, but having one when I'm in the mood for a really full bodied experience is like wanting to drive a Ferrari at 140 on the Autobahn but being offered a lovely drive down a country road in a restored Model T instead. Very pretty, but not what I asked for. 3
Popular Post ha_banos Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I was thinking about this today as I was finishing the PC Pledge Purple episode. I smoke on a good week maybe 3 or 4 cigars. No more than 1 in an evening when I do. So I haven't changed my rotation so to speak. I'm still picking out some random Cuban. Nowadays thinking about how they won't be replaced. Variety is the spice of life for me. However I've got some F5 bundles Canonazo, Fat Fundys and some samplers. Managed to get some custom Cubans over the past few years so they tend to go. Multiple cigars a day is crazy to me. Maybe on a nice summer BBQ day. But if you look at the daily smoking thread there's no plan. No rotation. I guess that's how I'll keep going. Fortunately I've therefore got enough Cubans to last me many years at my rate. Got in at a good time as any I guess. I've still been picking up the odd Cuban box very rarely too. Let's see what happens... https://www.instagram.com/puros2004 6
BG318 Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I can be a little streaky with my smoking volume, but I average out to around 2 a week over a period of one year. At that rate I am still picking CCs over anything else, because I have enough supply. A few exceptions - I have all the FOH releases and I dip into them, and introduce people to them. They are always included in my travel humidor, so I am essentially a brand ambassador. Myself, I prefer them on days when I am having 3 or more cigars. They age well! My oldest are around 3 years old and are smoking the house down. I have the usual small assortment of NCs of AF, Davidoff, Padron, Tats, and 1 or 2 of the ones everyone says I should try because "I would like it." (I never do.) If I smoked more frequently, as many of you do, I would likely feel differently. It's easier to maintain a lighter habit and keep with the CCs. 3
Popular Post El Presidente Posted June 10 Popular Post Posted June 10 I have my CC rotation occasional replacements. Naturally I gravitate to my own line of cigars because that is what they were developed for. D4 .....no problem replacing with MOFOH Robusto Trinity BBF.....no problem replacing with Corta Suave or BR Petit 109 Partagas 898.....can't replace just yet. Lusitania ....no problem replacing with BR 109 Sir Winston.....Can't fully replace. Still Nudies Churchill is 80% of the experience for 15% of the price. Cohiba Siglo V...Can't fully replace but again BR Dalia gives me 80% of the experience for 10% of the price. Punch DC.....Fenomeno is close to its match (for me). 14

Popular Post joeypots Posted June 11 Popular Post Posted June 11 I can't come up with one to one substitution by a lot. The last two weeks or so It's been all Fab 5 stuff for me and the farther away from a Cuban cigar I am, the more I like the Fab 5 offerings. My New World knowledge is next to nothing after all these years being a Cuban Cigar fiend. So, a Robusto, for example? The Robusto Trinitys I have are coming along nicely and they will do until I need a Cuban Robusto. Most of the other Fab 5s that are similar vitolas to the Habanos I have work pretty good. The Spada Gorda Is a standout. If I get to the city and a decent smoke shop I'll probably pick up some old favorites, Fuentes and the like. The recent news about Habanos and shipping is dire enough to have me thinking to myself, "Do I need to smoke this Cuban cigar or will something else scratch the itch?" It doesn't have to be a Cohiba to be a special occasion cigar anymore. 7
Popular Post Duxnutz Posted June 11 Popular Post Posted June 11 I’m still 100% picking my cigars based on humidity. If it’s humid out I’ll smoke a New World, if it’s not then a Cuban it is. My indoor smoking area is nearly ready to go so don’t know what I’ll do then? 7 1

Chitmo Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Personally I never had to shift from CCs to NCs. The prices of NCs in Canada are wild and I don’t have any good way to acquire them in a more cost effective manor. My house keeper used to mule for me on her trips to the island a few times a year, plus 24:24 is still more cost effective than the local NC offerings. 1
