Popular Post JohnS Posted July 5 Popular Post Posted July 5 Canada's 3-0 loss today doesn't pay justice to how hard they fought in this game. Yes, Morocco were the better team, but it was 1-0 until the 80-minute mark when the Canadian team pushed forward to try to equalise and conceded two goals from Morocco's counter-attack, which caught Canada's defence out of position. 6 1

chasy Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Haaland is the man. Honestly I probably like Norway more than the US team. 1
99call Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I've found football to be really really dull over the last 20yrs or so. Negative tactics and endless passing back to the goalie. Like watching paint dry.ย This tournament has been a shot in the arm for the sport, teams genuinely trying to win, and not just playing for penalties.ย It's a real shame that is seems like corruption has seeped in. First the referee in the France-Paraguay match was clearly paid off, now red cards being wiped. It's a tragic that some seek to put their thumb on the scale when the tournament was going so well.ย 1
Fireball Posted July 6 Posted July 6 @99callย agreed, this tournament has seen some fantastic games. I do think the red card being pulled was also a byproduct of FIFA wanting to grow the sport in the US. The last time a World Cup was in the US the sport saw massive US growth. Right or wrong, it is hard to explain just how upset US fans were at that red card. Now they feel like they are given a fair shake and wonโt be turned off by the sport. Like with everything, itโs about $$$. IMO.ย 1
VeguerosMAN Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Argentina's path to semi is too easy. Even their group stage opponents were a joke- jordan, Austria, and Algeria. C'mon man ย Maybe it's not a coincidence that Fifa wants Messi to win his second trophy.ย

The idea that they are too sensitive or delicate to see the rules of the game get imposed as they should, or they simply refuse to watch/support? That would be sad state of affairs.ย If I felt any of the teams I support were being given a cake walk for 'reasons',ย the magic would be totally lost for me, and I likely would lose all interest.ย 1
ElLoboLoco Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Frankly, it should have never been a Red Card. The ref was shown the replay at slow motion, everything looks like a Red Card in slow motion. Glad they got it right in the end. 4

Canada had 0.42 xG @ half vs Morocco's 0.02. Morocco figured out how to put the ball in the net in the second half but it definitely didn't feel like a 3-0 whomping.ย We'll be back in 4 years. 1

El Presidente Posted July 6 Posted July 6 21 minutes ago, ElLoboLoco said: A red card seemed harsh to me, but then again, NFL fans look at the rolling around on the turf as sickening ๐ The rolling around is sickening but inconsequential.ย A red card tackle is simply one thatย occurs when a player uses excessive force or brutality that endangers an opponent's safety, typically involving lunging with studs up, speed, or intent to injure. Accidental, no problem.ย Endangers an opponents safety...absolutely.ย 2
ElLoboLoco Posted July 6 Posted July 6 The speed of play is so fast, what I see is an entanglement and not necessarily intentional. No question he is stepping on his ankle. Maybe intent is not required but he appears to be looking away while stepping on his ankle. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

ElLoboLoco Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Many cracking games this past weekend, Cabo Verde vs Argentina was easily the most entertaining game (of any sport) this season for me. They scrapped, the Goat performed...just an amazing performance all around.ย ย 3
JohnS Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I too am bewildered at the decision by FIFA to overturn the ramifications Falorun Balogun's red card. Personally, I don't think it matters if it was a warranted red card or not, the political interference was a step too far, in my view. On a lighter note (or perhaps not), how about this statistic below. The number of times a player has taken a shot at goal in a World Cup without providing an assist (i.e, a pass or header) to a teammate. 17 - Most shots on record (since 1966) at a single edition of the FIFA World Cup without creating a single chance for a teammate: Cristiano Ronaldo, 17 (2026) Alberto Garcia Aspe, 15 (1998) Jerzy Gorgon, 13 (1974) Katlego Mphela, 13 (2010) Denis Cheryshev, 13 (2018) After Spain progressed 1-0 today over Portugal, are Portugal's other stars happy that this is CR7's last World Cup? 2

It is why they don't play rugby.ย Scott, they tend to take their ankles rather seriously. One touch and it is as if they have been shot by a sniper, sodomised by the prison cell, and then finally tasered by the guards. Miraculously, the Lord Jesus lays his hands on them and they are "right as rain" once the referee has blown or declined a penalty.ย Still...reckless + dangerous meets the requirement for a Red.ย The political interference here has rocked fans around the globe a tad. Everyone knows FIFA is corrupt. The fact that the US president would meddle came as a surprise to all.ย ย 2 1
