Simple comp: Two questions (sometimes about cigars but mostly not).

First question will ask you for your choice between two or more things.

Second will be to ask you if that was a "don't make me choose!" or "No contest" question for you.

Vote in the poll, discuss below if you wish

All participants go into the random draw for a 5-pack of MOFOH Robusto Trinity :cigar:

Hemingway. Now if you had said Zane Grey that would be my #1.

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

Hunter S. Thompson

Hemingway is preferred more often than not. A sprinkle of Thompson is appreciated every now and then.

massive fan of both. why on earth would you pit these two against each other? hardly anything in common. i've read pretty much everything both of them have ever written. very, very different in every way.

Why? Your opening line says it all. Two great American writers, which do you prefer the most? Was it an easy choice or a difficult one? They don't need to have anything in common style-wise.

Very much agreed with Ken here, can't choose... Had you put Bukowski instead of Hemingway I could have chimed in 🤔

I'm a huge Bukowski fan. But he's primarily a poet. Certainly a better poet than novelist. Post Office and Ham on Rye were his only really decent novels in my opinion. The latter being definitely the more accomplished effort.

Well said. If I had choose, then yes, I'd choose Ernest Hemingway here too.

Don't make me choose, but no author can capture my whole attention quite like Hemingway.

Yeah, don’t make me choose here for sure. Two iconoclasts who more or less have no peer.

I picked Thompson as I've read more of his work.

Although to be fair, I'd imagine both would be a nightmare to deal with in real life. 😆

Thompson just because knowing facts about him helped me get the girlfriend I had in my freshman year of college, lmao!
