Simple comp: Two questions (sometimes about cigars but mostly not).

First question will ask you for your choice between two things.

Second will be to ask you if that was a "don't make me choose!" or "No contest" question for you.

Vote in the poll, discuss below if you wish

All participants go into the random draw for a 5-pack of MOFOH Robusto Trinity :cigar:

(drawn Tuesday mornings AEST)

Tough call, but I loved the back story with De Niro playing Vito. Just enough to wet my beak.

Easy choice -  The Godfather  (Maybe best film of all time).

The Don, Sonny, Clemenza, Luca never gets old.

If I said that I consider both films like a continuation of one story, would that be a cop out? It's very difficult to choose. For years, Sight & Sound, the British Film Institute's cinema publication, publish a Greatest Films for All Time list every 10 years and they would include both films as one film until the 2012 list.

I think the original Godfather film was made under very difficult circumstances (as was director Francis Ford Coppola's other great masterpiece, Apocalypse Now) and it stands as the best film of the trilogy, but it's infinitesimally better than The Godfather II (let's say by less than half a percent, for argument's sake). I feel Robert De Niro's and Al Pacino's acting performances were masterful in The Godfather II, but Marlon Brando delivered the performance of a lifetime, for which he'll never be forgotten.

It’s fun because I agree with everything except the conclusion here. I think the interplay in II, and the Sicily scenes push it over the edge to me. But your larger point, that they’re essentially one story, is absolutely true in my eyes.

This poll reminds me I’m due for a rewatch.

Masterpieces both? Certainly. I chose The Godfather and don't make me choose.

There is a dramatic series on Paramount Plus called The Offer which is about Al Ruddy, the man who produced The Godfather, and the struggles he endured to get the film made.

It's TV, I know, but the story is amazing. Watch it. As they say, you can't make that s**t up.

Easy, it’s 2. Don Fanucci. Boarding Vito’s motorcar out of nowhere to wet his beak is one of the most underrated scenes in cinema.

I, like John consider them both a combined film. That said I picked 2 just because of Michael's story arch. But they are both epic. The scene with Solozzo is so dark. Tough call. I could pick either one.

Godfather 2 just because I love seeing Michael’s character develop into the Don and also seeing Vito's back story. Super hard to choose though.

Tough choice, but there is no Godfather II without the Godfather. It's really that simple.

II. That rare sequel that’s clearly better than the original.

Went with number 1, don't make me choose, with Brando's performance being an all time favorite.

I’m almost embarrassed to say I have not watched these films. Can’t exactly explain why I haven’t but I will soon. Great poll!

That’s my plan. Or possibly an A.

Funny thing - when that came out I thought to myself - now I can watch the full trilogy, how cool. Then I saw how most everyone hated part three and that derailed my enthusiasm. Still I know the first two are must see so I will watch them soon - finally!

It's not as bad as most say imo, but it was totally unnecessary, a third part could have never lived up to the first two movies.
