I actually really like this size. Infact perfect for me. I don't think we will see them for under 1K a box in Aus. That said, a 10 count is tempting 😪

I'm a bit surprised actually, in France the San Juan goes for 27,80 and the Rio Seco for 29 euros, I can't see these being cheaper (longer, with that ankle bracelet and all...)...

EUR 24.80 is the German price at release, the San Juan currently is 25.00 and the Rio Seco 26.00, so they all are pretty close. French market usually tends to be a bit above that mainly due to tax differences. So expect them to be around 28 in France.

Looks like foot bands will be introduced to all of those three soon.

If they are anything close to the San Juan I will be a buyer. Always buy the OR (Original Release) if possible. They are almost always the perfect example of the vitola.

Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Luis Debuts in Germany

The newest Hoyo de Monterrey is nearing its release.

Last night, at an event hosted by Dalay Ziggaren at the Kunz Theatre in Saarbrücken, Germany, a launch party was held for the new Le Hoyo de San Luis, part of the Le Hoyo Series. The Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Luis measures 6 3/10 x 52, a new vitola within the Cuban cigar system, called fragancias. Habanos S.A., the global distributor of Cuban cigars, says that the filler leaves come from San Luis and Vuelta Abajo regions.

In Germany, where prices are fixed, the Le Hoyo de San Luis will be priced at €24.80 ($28.85) per cigar. It comes in boxes of 10. It’s unclear when the cigars will arrive on shelves, but 5th Avenue Products Trading GmbH—the distributor of Cuban cigars in Germany and Poland—is handling the global launch.

“The Le Hoyo Series has long captivated aficionados of every level — from the curious newcomer to the seasoned connoisseur. Le Hoyo de San Luis builds on this legacy with a distinctive blend that offers exceptional character and value,” said Jorge Pérez Martel, commercial vp of Habanos, S.A., in a press release. “Hoyo de Monterrey continues to embody perfect balance within the world of premium cigars.”

Habanos S.A. says that this cigar is part of the Le Hoyo Series, a sub-brand within Hoyo de Monterrey. It joins two existing cigars: the Le Hoyo de San Juan (5 9/10 x 54) and Le Hoyo de Rio Seco (5 1/2 x 56). As part of the Le Hoyo de San Luis’ launch, it appears that Habanos S.A. has added unique foot bands to those two cigars and a similar one appears on the San Luis.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance:  

An exceptionally crafted Habano, dressed in a light caramel-coloured wrapper that shimmers with a natural, silky sheen.

First third:  

Smooth draw and an excellent burn, producing compact, uniform ash in elegant light grey tones. The aroma is refined and inviting, offering a pleasant, fresh, and balanced smoke, with woody notes and a subtle, elegant bitterness that marks its flavour.

Second third:

The tobacco and toasted notes intensify, merging gracefully with a woody background and a balanced bitterness.

Final third:  

Delicate notes of cocoa appear, along with a slightly lingering aftertaste, characteristic of the brand, making for a unique and pleasant smoking experience.

Careful because the RG is more likely to hit 60 rather than 42.

Out of my radar due to the thick ring gauge🥳. What a shame. Habanos, please have a look at the secondary market and auctions, people are paying top dollars for MdO #1/2/3, Lonsdales, etc of legacy production. Come back to your roots, we want the good old HdM le hoyo vitolas. 

P.S: I actually like footer bands, it should ideally reduce footer cracks.

Also many of the most highly sought after Regionals are under 46rg.
