What's up for the weekend?

This weekend is one of the biggest sporting weekends on the calendar! 

 

AFL Grand final today. 100,000 people at the MCG ground and our team the Brisbane Lions are in it playing the Geelong Cats.  

I can't take Di to a public place to watch the game as she is...well...hard to say this gently...a pure embarrassment.  Between the continuous screaming at the umpire, the detailed coaching advice to each of our players (just catch it Fwit!), the kicking over in anger of the plastic chair in front of her, ...and that's when she's not drinking 

Post AFL Grand Final I will need a drink and will watch the Wallabies All Blacks Rugby Union International. The Wallabies haven't beaten the All blacks at this ground since apparently 573 AD. I have little hope that string of losses will be broken today but I immensely look forward to the string of minute by minute live analysis text messages from Ken.  

Sunday is Mum's 86th birthday and I have her favourite Chinese restaurant booked. What she actually likes about Chinese restaurants  is the big round table...for 14 tomorrow...so that she can remain the centre of attention and miss no one in giving her thoughts on their life choices. Traumatised, everyone will rush home to watch the big Preliminary Semi Final Rugby League game between Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers. Brisbane are close enough 2 to 1 underdogs and deservedly so!  But there is always hope!!!  game starts at 4PM. Ken's first text will be 4:01

I have to clean out the bus in preparation for my yearly fall steelhead trip to the Trinity River in Northern California. Attending a memorial for a friend of mine who died in a plane crash recently. A cigar or 3. And gotta visit with my pops at the nursing facility. I can use a break. Will be fishing for 10 days!

Perth Boys are at Clives to watch the game. Goooooo Brisbane goooooo. Half of Brisbane's team look as though they should be in school still. The two coaches well you have intellect and a master tactician. Brisbane has the ultimate father figure for a coach who never played AFL. And I tell you his boys just love him and will play there backsides off for him. Let's go Lions, let's gooooooooo.

I will post the scores up throughout the day. Clive (Miner) mentioned that we will be watching some other game after the footy. Apparently the players have no necks and no brains and do some sort war dance before the game. Sounds charming.

I remember watching as a child on late night ESPN television and some dudes in a coat pointing after what I thought was a punted field goal.

Anywho, gym, sleep, trail hiking, champagne shopping, football and mucho cigars.

Went to the Sharks v Storm game last night. Sad ending for the Sharks (it's a bitter life for a Cronulla fan) but they probably finished higher than they should've considering their glorious inconsistencies during the season. If ever a team should be the Cuban Rugby League Team, it's Cronulla. 

Might watch the AFL grand final, will watch the Wallabies v All Blacks, Ryder Cup and nightshift tomorrow.

I have taken some long service leave with my wife, Eleni this week. We have just landed in Chania, Crete. Looking forward to seeing our extended family while we are in Greece this weekend (and for the next few weeks).

The Ryder Cup will be the background to the weekend. Having some friends over tonight for a curry, so shortly will be starting a lamb rogan josh and a Dishoom house ruby, meat which has been marinading since yesterday.

I signed contracts on a new house for the family. It will close toward end of October. Excited for some more space. Celebrated in style with - a two solo pints of stout and a pack of bacon fries in the local 😅

Di was very loud...and very happy

If Di was very loud yesterday, I can't even begin to imagine the volume just half an hour ago when the Brisbane Broncos scored to be 16-14 in front after been behind 14-0 at half-time!
