An Occasion for the Lancero

What is your chosen occasion for a Lancero?

Describe the best occasion that for you, calls for a Lancero. It's not the most versatile vitola. For me, they tend to sleep the most months in my humidor. When lit, they can take a full two hours or more to finish, so pairing usually requires a refill. Please share your insights. I am keen to find out whether there might be a common theme. Thanks!

There are few ways I would rather enjoy a Sunday afternoon than with a Lancero so that’s what I chose. One of my favorite vitolas so I smoke them often but you’re right, they are a significant time commitment. Gotta sip ‘em slow and easy to extract all those intricate concentrated flavors.

I agree that a Sunday Afternoon, or any day really when I have absolutely nothing to do (rare during the week), the house is empty, and I can just sit in the backyard and relax, listen to some music. That is the best time to enjoy a lancero.

With 3 kids under 6, a lancero requires planning. It’s typically a nap time, evening or dedicated block of time where I know interruptions will be at a minimum.

I used to smoke a lot of Lanceros years ago when they were more ready available. Now if I do reach for one its probably going to have lots of age on it!

If I could only have one vitola, it would be the lancero. I love a good lancero with a good book.

It's all been well said above, but I'll just second that these are sipping cigars IMO.  

What adds to my enjoyment of them is having them at a slightly lower RH -- more toward 60% for skinnies than for the rest. That's easy to do by just slipping a little 58% Boveda in the box of cigars while it sits in the cabinet (which is kept more towards 62%). It's like a mini"dry box" adjustment, but it's way more forgiving than a real "dry box" if your plans change.  

Skinnies are wonderful.

A Spring or Fall Friday afternoon after work, sitting on my deck with the dog, wife, Spotify/jammin' music, and a cold adult beverage. Lancero is perfect for this occasion & forces me to slow down & enjoy my time here.

The majority of my lanceros are med-full, so Sunday afternoon or in the evening are when they get smoked. I can't recall ever having a lancero with a Saturday morning coffee. Tons of skinnies in the morning in the form of petit coronas, but never a lancero.

Afternoon work writing/planning/contemplating cigar. Lancero...that tactile feel in the hand...like a great pen...they make me feel smarter . Lancero has become my work cigar/vitola of choice over the years. It is almost a conditioning tool where if I have some serious thinking to do, a Lancero comes out.

Brunch cigar for sure for me. Funny thing I rarely smoke them and I am well stocked up. Just scored a box of Monte Especiales. I will always consider a Lanceros, then reach for a Double Robusto.

What a great question. I answered the poll immediately and then thought about it for a whole day. I really only enjoy a Lancero as an afternoon smoke, but why wouldn't I like them at night, where I'll go for a Churchill? I don't know why, but, while I can enjoy a Lonsdale afternoon or evening, a Churchill is usually an evening thing for me. If I start my day with any of the three I feel guilty, like I shouldn't be milling around smoking- weekend, weekdays or even on vacation. For some reason a Cazadore is OK in the AM. Thanks for asking the question!
