yuppie Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I thought it'd be good to have a thread dedicated to honey notes. Which cigars give you the most honey and which one takes the cake? Frequently hearing Cohiba, Trinidad, etc. What's your top honey bomb?

There are cigars that "when the honey is on" are simply phenomenal. It doesn't aways happen however, even in those cigars that are renowned for it. For me, I can increase my chances however with the following: Cohiba Robusto Cohiba Siglo V Cohiba Esplendido. Cohiba Corona Especial Quai d'Orsay 52 Aged Quai d'Orsay Corona Claro Aged Por Larranaga Petit Corona (albeit a caramel version) Aged Trinidad Coloniales. Aged Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial H, Upmann Magnum 50 Behike MOFOH Robusto Trinity Desnudo Queen Corona You can hit the "honey" zone in many others but maybe not consistently. 10 1
Chibearsv Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I’ve got such a specific definition of honey flavor in my mind that I can’t say I’ve ever tasted it in a cigar. I get sweetness in a lot of different varieties in cigars, marshmallow, brown sugar, molasses, dried fruits, yellow straw, milk chocolate, etc. but not honey. I’m not the best describer of cigar flavors though. 😁 2

Expand I really need to get some CoRos but the prices are just insane at the moment. Maybe when I get access to the trading forum I could get some swaps going! I have a box of PLPCs, I should probably get yet another.
Chibearsv Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Rob’s list is a really good one for light sweetness in different varieties except for PLPC and Coloniales which both have a darker sweetness to me. Some of my favorites: SCDLH La Fuerza is molasses, Monte Edmundo is chocolate, Siglo V is dreamsickle orange and vanilla, RASS is dried prune, and Esplendidos is yellow straw (my absolutely favorite cigar). There’s more to each of these but those are the core flavors I get. 4

Expand Great point. For some of us, those sweet flavours may not translate to 'honey'. For others, 'honey' may just be a nickname reserved for one's wife. 5 1
99call Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Not a fan of that Cohiba honey thing, and I don't see any crossover at all with QDO in term of a honey flavour presence. You can get a real distinct dark Manuka honey flavour with San Christobal La Fuerza. 1
cnov Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I find the PLPC hits a sweetness I'd describe as honey - light, floral, sweet. 3
Popular Post chasy Posted May 24 Popular Post Posted May 24 I’ve had CoRos that taste like I’m sucking on a honeycomb. It’s the single best cigar flavor I’ve had, but very rare. If a CoRo is $75, I’d budget for 5 in order to hope to get that experience once. 5 1
Havanaaddict Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Old COROs & Cohiba Corona Especial will do it with the right amount of age! Old Punch SS2 will drip honey! PLPC I get more Carmel! I also get it from 80's R&J Coronas in cello! 3
Popular Post Habanoschris Posted May 24 Popular Post Posted May 24 PL Montecarlo PLPC is definitely caramel (had some great ones) if that counts. To me, certain HdM & even some fonseca flirt with honey notes. I know Cohiba is famous for it but I'm low on good Cohiba experiences and w/ today's pricing not holding my breath on gaining much more soon. I have had vanilla, marshmallow & even molasses in many cigars/marcas, then there's floral - a whole other area, lol! P.S. Aging some SCdLH La Fuerza & didn't know what to expect. A couple comments here are helping me fill in the gaps. 👌 7
Fugu Posted May 25 Posted May 25 As others are alluding to, ageing seems a prerequisite for it to develop. Adding to the “list” - and it might sound odd - but I am finding it a lot in aged Chicos, sometimes even more pronounced in well-matured Party Puritos. In combo with the typical strong earthy tobacco flavour of those little buggers it can be a real treat. Freed from the cello and you’re instantly greeted by that strong honey aroma - which my ‘honey’ (citing John), though, is calling “cat piss”, …goes to show once again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder 😂 3

The main thing missing from my collection is Cohiba right now. I've only got a few Siglo II's which are good, but not heavenly just yet.
CaptainQuintero Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Probably not a great help these days but if you're able to source any of the older El Rey del Mundo thinner RG sticks, to me they more often than not had a honey stirred through hot creamy porridge character. The PC, GdE particularly. 1 1
