Oakland, California Eyes Banning Smoking at Outdoor Bars

Earlier this week, Oakland, Calif., took the first step toward banning smoking in bars’ outdoor areas.

The Oakland City Council passed a first reading of legislation that would update the city’s smoking ordinances. If approved, the new law would do three main things:

  1. Remove an existing exemption that allows for smoking in the outdoor areas of bars
  2. Define “vaping” as “smoking” and therefore banning vaping in places where smoking is banned
  3. Allow for some use of cannabis smoking at multi-unit residential buildings

Per a report by Bay City News, the Oakland City Council was unanimous about removing the bar smoking exemption, but divided about how to handle the marijuana smoking at multi-family buildings.

A final vote is scheduled for Dec. 3.

Crazy world we live in.

A few years ago I was in an outdoor bar in Aspen, CO, sitting at a fire pit, multiple people smoking pot around the fire pit.  I lit up a cigar, and the bartender told me I couldn't smoke it there.

Would be same reaction in Massachusetts. 😞

If only the City put as much effort into combating crime and urban decay.

SF and LA have become the capital of SHITHOLE under their super woke policies.  Two of my friends lost their homes in the past 2 years in LA.

There's many reasons I relocated to the free state of South Carolina. Especially BS nonsense like this. I've been to Colorado once. Beautiful state. Hijacked by the leftist crazies. Darn shame.

Maybe if you put down those stinky ass cheap cigars and fired up a nice one instead, you wouldn't get so much grief.

Just say there is pot in the cigars or it's a new strain.

I’m a cop in a city a couple exits away from Oakland and I can say first hand that city is the living example of the purge. The district attorney (recalled recently) wouldn’t care if you broke into that business and stole stuff, but god forbid you lit up a cigar on the balcony during the act.

I don't think it's a felony if you rob up to 5k in Cali. You just get a misdemeanor charge. Scary times.
