To be fair he asked me because I have hired drivers in the past. I think he was just second guessing his own protocol.

He set a rate at his own accord on the last day. He should have told the driver that was the plan and allowed him to say no instead wasting 3 whole days he could have been servicing other tourists. Imagine paying an all day driver in US $25, you'd get your ass kicked. Not a drama queen at all, I'd confront him.

Your word is all you have. It's hard to imagine that that guy doesn't know what you do for a living. The guy violated what should be an inarguable trust. All you can do is to try to fix the relationship with the driver, monetarily, to make him whole for the insult. Sorry to hear that people can't understand the effects of their own actions on other people.
