Or am I missing the point...are they actually suggesting all these things should gleefully 'go up in smoke'? If so it perfectly makes sense. Whilst I'm on a politics rant (that you bloody started!! may I add), I'd like to stick the boot in on Keir Starmer. On the whole I think he's been a breath of fresh air, but being guilty of 00000.1% of the cronyism that the Tories were, seriously boils my piss. There was a rumoured meeting between Starmer and Murdoch about 4mths before the election, and everyone was eager to learn whether he would 'kiss the ring' and not undertake the 2nd part of The Levinson Enquiry. All the ultra left in the UK slagged Starmer accusing him kissing the ring like Tony Blair did, but if you look how hard the right wing rags in the the UK are desperate to rip Labour to bits, I think it's a clear indication he's going to make Murdoch take the stand again. Bravo I say. Will be interesting to see what's in the budget this week. Back to cronyism in the Labour ranks. Every time they offer a chink of light those who would say, "they are all the same." It drives me fricken bonkers. We need to be whiter than white.

If he can be anything close to a Clement Attlee or an Aneurin Bevan, I'll take that all day long.

If it's any lens of success, we hear nothing about Sir Keir over here, while the last few were splashed around quite a bit for the sake of gossip. (Yes, I'm having a bit of fun with the "Sir". I know why he was knighted.) 1
cnov Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I knew exactly who this was aimed at as soon as I saw the title! 🎣 3

(yes, I'm having a bit of fun with the "Sir". I know why he was knighted.) He said in his acceptance speech, "I want politics to tread more lightly on your lives". You could take a few different meanings from this, but I think we was loosely saying, he wasn't going to be a calamitous, one man band of debauchery. He has sort of succeeded in that to some degree. He absolutely bossed the fascist rioters in his first month, but as I said before the Murdoch papers are going hard. Starmer doesn't want to hit the headlines, he wants to fix the country. Sometimes those things have to go hand in hand...but he's not a showman, he's a pragmatic details person.

MrBirdman Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Gotta love what this says about how ass-backwards the US is that the post touts maternity benefits as a conservative policy from oh, a CENTURY ago. Beautiful

I do not profess to know the in's and out's of it. But if it has made peoples lives and livings harder, I do feel for them. I do support the phasing out of cigarettes, I used to be a cigarette smoker and they are bloody evil toxic things. I would prefer to not to ban them, and just A - raise the age limit, B - make them hideously expensive. 5 hours ago, El Presidente said: He has been there 10 minutes and both himself and wife have been found to have nose in trough. They are rolling around in free gifts from all and sundry. "Rolling Around" if laying it on fabulously thick. If it was like for like. The clothes, tickets to events etc that Labour have accepted, wouldn't even buy you one of Boris Johnsons farts in a ziploc bag...and he would want you to provide the bag!! Labour has largely pissed off their normal source of pre-election funder i.e. the Unions, because they have had to keep an arms distance, and enamour the swing voters. Starmer has paid back 6k yesterday, and set into motion cancelling such political gifts etc. Which I welcome, it's right that we return to a time where a politician submitting a receipt for a replacement rubber plug (standard sink!!!...not even anal) was a genuine front page scandal!!! The stuff to do with Arsenal box, I think is common sense, the ground cannot arrange his security in the stands. It's pretty weak water from Rupert. If had my way, I would ban all football...terrible game. If this was a Tory government, non of this low level stuff would get a single line in the papers, but I'm actually glad it has...zero tolerance. 3
