I don't like the look of them, but the current higher end collibri triple jets at least meet the last 2.

I've had nothing but trouble with every Colibri lighter I've ever owned. After a few months they develop residue buildup and start sputtering no matter the quality of the butane used. Send it in for an overhaul and then a month later it happens again.

So the reliable part is the most important factor for me.

I mostly just pick the cap with my fingers (maybe 90% of the time) but my wife got me this cutter as a present a couple years back. It’s affordable and really nice quality - super sharp blades and the case / sleeve is awesome too. I can still find it online for ~$70.

I have the same scissors. Super sharp and nice hand-feel. I would pair it with the ST Dupont Slim 7 single flame torch for ~200€. I love the Slim 7 when I need a torch. I've had mine since 2016. Constant usage and never a problem. Zero maintenance in those 8 years.

Used cutter is fine. Atoll makes a nice lighter for the price. They seem to have fallen off the retail map some.

I have a Xikar guillotine that I got free for buying a box of cigars from Florida more than 25 years ago. I’ve had various other lighters and cutters and am not even a little impressed with any or them. Except these. Say what you want about cheap plastic swag, the Vertigo lighter is amazing. Two for like 20$ after years of use I’ve never had a failure. The Perfect Draw Punch is a great tool, obviously not a cutter, but if I need a cut I use a sharp pocket knife most of the time.

I have had this cutter since the 1990's and it still works great. I can't vouch for the newer ones.. Edit- just checked out the price of one of these cutters new- too high for this discussion!

I bought a Colibri v cutter a couple of years ago - works great but I don't use a v cutter very often . I'm sure both are around $100.

This Xikar is cheap ($90) and works fine. I would never spend any money on a lighter. My back up would be a match.

I'd spend the money on a pair of good scissors as mentioned in an above post, and completely ignore the lighter, imo.

I've heard good things about this lighter and this cutter from Xikar 👍

The Verado Xicar "flat flame" lighter is one I can vouch for as Li Bai recommended.

Yes, there was once a time that it failed (as many lighters do) --  and then Xicar replaced it, no questions asked.

Is it my favorite? No.  Is it reliable, and adjustable and replaceable by warranty?  Yes.

The Xicar cutters are of the same "quality"/replaceability  but definitely value, IMO.

I've tried a few but the Colibri Daytona is my favourite lighter, lasts ages, huge tank, always found them very reliable. Cutter Xikar Xi1 has done me very well for the last 7 years, again no issues.

Kiribi Kabuto ($70-90US) makes a great hard use butane soft flame lighter for pipe use but it works great for cigars (not fun to use on windy days).  The pipe community seems to rate it a good value for a lighter that will last for years if you don't mind changing a flint every couple of weeks.

IM Corona Old boy ($150-200) is supposed to be the luxury brand version of this and they look awesome but I haven't tried one yet.

I have given up on expensive jet lighters over the last couple of years. Xikar has great repair/replace policy but I have had to send in 4 over the last year and a half from button or spark issues so I usually buy a 6 pack of cheap triple flames to keep around house.

Perfect cut by Cuban Crafters ($20-30) has been my favorite cutter.  I never have friends overcutting cigars anymore and for pyramide I just cut twice and never have them come apart.  Refurb or vintage jets may be in my future after reading this thread haha.

I want an old ST Dupont lighter. Cutters are dime a dozen.

ST Dupont Maxijet (can get for well under $175) classy and reliable AF!!!  Ive owned a dozen mid-range lighters and they all eventually go bad, some sooner than later. Xikar cutter with the difference.  Can get a metal tear drop style if you want to feel the weight in your hand or a fiberblass version (which I prefer)
