Jerryvonkramer Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 About 6 weeks ago I bought a Colibri v-cutter. After 7 years of using a straight cut, I am now completely converted. Let me explain why. First, it hits every time, perfect cut without fail, so you never have the situation where you accidentally take too much off or cause the wrapper to start unravelling. Second, it opens up the draw, hardly ever too tight or too loose, but always seemingly spot on. Third, while I'm not convinced it makes a huge taste difference, I do think I've been better able to pick out specific notes since converting. If you're similarly going to make the change, just a word of warning. When I first changed, first one or two sticks, I went back to a straight cut because I didn't like the taste and feel and the wrapper near the cap, it just tastes different from what I was used to. I'm over this now like when you quickly get over the smell of dung when you're on a farm or something like that. Now it feels natural and normal. Has anyone else made the switch? Does anyone firmly believe straight or punch is better? If so why? I wasn't expecting to be, but I am solidly on team v-cutter now. 2 1
Chitmo Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I’ve used a V-Cut for larger vitolas and Figurados for years. Try it on a Piramide, it’s odd at first but works great in my experience.
JoeyBones777 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I switch between str8, V and punch. Every once and awhile I do @El Presidente fingernail cut. Basically, it depends on the situation for me. More often than not, I str8 cut. I just like the look and feel of a str8 cut more.
SUP8333 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Does anyone do two cuts? I start with a V cut and when it gets too bitter I do a straight with just a little bit off and it clears the draw right up. 1
jazzboypro Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I switched from a guillotine cutter to a punch about 6-7 months ago. Can't say I see/taste any difference.
Ciscojohansson Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Colibri is a great brand. I have the punch, a table S/C cutter and a normsl S/V cutter. But I have fully converted to fingernails. Simply the best.
Jimmy2 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I just bite it off…And spit it out and light it up. 1 1
Elvis Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 If you don’t mind losing the divot. Or knowing if one ever existed.
La_Tigre Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 V-cut for practically everything. Keeps it dryer for whatever reason.
Cigar Surgeon Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I v-cut everything and love it. Welcome to the club! 2
madandana Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 As do I. Perfect cut every time. Opens it up nicely. 1

Rhinoww Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Once you go V you never go back. It’s v cut for me, or when needed I’ll use my fingernail to cut the cap off in a round design. As in when I don’t have my v cutter with me.
Hoepssa Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 I have both. Larger ring cigars I cut them with V-cutter, using straight cutter for piramides/belicosos.
SirVantes Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 I'm not a fan of the v-cut. I find the angled edges uncomfortable on my lips (I have the habit of rotating my cigar as I smoke, so it's unavoidable). And I somehow get the sensation that the v-cut funnels the smoke into a jet, which makes the taste just that bit harsher. I know it's probably psychological, but much of this hobby is.
