MedV3 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Stay safe @Islandboy and all others who live in the area. What I am seeing is awful 1 1 2
topdiesel Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 video of the saddest thing I have ever seen from Hawaii. So sad for the loss of life and history. This is what Lahaina looks like now. From the AP news https://apnews.com/99ef9cfd6bcc4d1e9af833ab2a41e2f3
SpecialK Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Been there a couple of times to Kehei and Lahaina.... can't wrap my brain around the fact that Lahaina is gone.
Chibearsv Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 @Islandboy Brad, are you far enough north, the news is basically showing Lahaina only is affected? I hope you're ok brother. 3 1
WarriorPrincess Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Just heartbreaking the devestation and loss of life 🥺 1
Popular Post Islandboy Posted August 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 11, 2023 Thanks for the concern everyone, my wife and I live about 5 miles north of Lahaina town and are thankfully safe and sound. We’re all still barely able to process how horrible this event is. The death toll in our close knit community is expected to be in the 300-500 range when recovery and clean up is complete, and hundreds who survived are suddenly homeless. And because this all started when a total of about 30 power poles snapped in hurricane-force gusts just as the sun was setting, all of West Maui is now expected to be without power for possibly a month. Just an unthinkable tragedy all around is still in early stages here. This is going to require years of grit and determination to recover from, after the grieving is over. But if any community can pull it off, this town I grew up in can. Aloha gang - Brad 5 12 2

Duxnutz Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Glad you’re ok @Islandboy. Incomprendable, the damage to Old Lahaina Town. Fingers crossed the other fires are contained.
helix Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Oh man so sad just devastating. Did not stand a chance , it was a giant blow torch.

That’s devastating to hear. I’ve read accounts of people running into the ocean to escape the flames. Terrifying. Glad you and your wife are safe - good luck to you all over the coming weeks.
