Popular Post Chibearsv Posted March 15, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2023 Expensive toys - literally. Model Eifel Tower and model bridge? If I still had my Hot Wheels, it might be cool. 🤣 2 6
dblstacker Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Damn they look good but way too expensive for me
MickVanWinkle Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Pairs well with Dunhill’s Eiffel Tower pipe! 2 1
BoliDan Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 One of these days I'll probably conspicuously consume a cigar lighter, but this is not the one
targa88 Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Notwithstanding they exorbitant price tag. I would debate the quality of the product(s) involved. Ornamental beauty potentially. However DuPont quality as deteriorated over the years….
Michael303 Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I assume this haute stuff is made in France. What about the regular line of lighters and cutters?
RDB Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 It’s not exactly tastefully restrained, is it? For me the interest in the classic small functional items of beauty, like watches, lighters and pens, is the constraint of the form. You have small basic forms: cylinder, circle, cuboid. And in turn that strongly points to simplicity and balance as the aesthetic solution. Encrusting a watch with gems just looks daft, and moulding a load of metal onto a lighter makes it look like something out of a model railway set. I am a big fan of the classic Ligne 1 & especially Ligne 2 designs though… 3

Midas Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Most of it is made in China nowI’m sure there will be an AliExpress version soon enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It looks like quality craftsmanship though. I really don’t even understand the appeal for cigar smokers for a four-figure soft flame lighter. I know some people still use them for cigars, but if I want a soft flame I’ll use matches.
Ford2112 Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I must be considered a peasant with my 7 dollar torch. That's a bit too flash for me. 1

The Maxijet was still made in France. When they "upgraded" to Defi various versions they were all made in China. Can't speak to the Ligne or other components...

JohnS Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 It's funny how 'defi' means challenge in French (in English it has become the word defy). So we're saying that a French luxury product called 'Defi' couldn't meet the challenge of actually working. How pleasantly ironic! 😄 1

That's a bit too flash for me. 7-15 dollars seems to be the sweet spot for lighters. The more expensive ones never work any better. They're all made in the same place and I'm not disappointed when a cheap one gets lost or doesn't light on the first click.
BrightonCorgi Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 All the fancy stuff is still made in France. Dupont's leaking too easily/often is my biggest gripe with their lighters. I've own the same one for 30 years. I forget which series, but uses the green fluid. The ping is still there. Silver plate. I've read the knock off Dupont's can have an even better ping to them. I use either Bic or cedar strip at home. Dupont is leaking again. Cannot get a full flame out of her. Converted to dual flame about 20 years ago.
