These were visibly oily and mottled when they arrived, but have now settled down in appearance to a full Colorado. Initial draw is a bit tight, so it gets a poke from the head end with a perfecdraw. Then all is good.

This is a very well-constructed smoke, burning slowly and evenly. Gets a few minor touch ups along the way, probably because it’s fairly cold outside.

Flavours are predominantly in the woody, resinous spectrum. There is an attractive piney sweetness to it, but very grown up and balanced with a herbal spicy quality that gets stronger as the cigar burns down. Definitely more woody than toasty, but never drying or aggressive. Towards the end I get a little Szechuan pepper. It’s medium full from the start, edging up a bit but not a lot towards the last third. The slow, even burn really helps the flavours develop nicely, and the whole things is a very good, satisfying smoke.

A nice thing was discovering a colony of bumble bees right next to me on this scrappy bit of land out back of my place. They were flying in and out of a concealed entrance on the ground, looking for the early spring flowers.
