yadegari6 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Wondering if anyone has any tips or advice for lighting closed foot cigars. A lot of the Cuban customs I have are closed foot and I always seem to have issues getting these lit evenly causing lots of touch ups as I smoke through it.
NSXCIGAR Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 If they're super shaggy I might take a guillotine cutter to it first. Otherwise I just fire away.
Islandboy Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I find these a bit awkward as well, but I’ve always read that you just light it and puff, no toasting required.
Corylax18 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I smoke a lot of customs and have come to love the shaggy and closed foot cigars. The shaggy ones usually even themselves out eventually. But the closed foot can be a bit "protected" by that extra layer of tobacco, make sure you burn through that and actually light the rolled tobacco underneath.
yadegari6 Posted January 14, 2023 Author Posted January 14, 2023 I’ve tried just torching them as opposed to the usual toasting I do but keep seeming to have the same issue. It’s the extra layer of tobacco that @Corylax18 mentioned on the HLP cigars I have. Maybe I just need a more powerful lighter for these.
Cigar Surgeon Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I light before I cut and I haven't run into any issues getting a closed or shaggy foot going.
BrightonCorgi Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 You light them the same as any cigar. The closed end burns up pretty quick.
