HoyoFan Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Curious, for those that have tried the Nudies, is there any of Hamlet's stuff from RP that reminds you of these or that you'd simply recommend picking up as having a similar quality/flavor/etc.
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 No, I do not find that they are similar in any way. I much prefer the Nudies... 1

ha_banos Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Well that's lucky no one thought there was any similarity. Otherwise there'd be lawsuits slapping around all over the place!

They both held up their end of the bargain and now Hamlet is free to do his own thing. I'm sure Rocky (and plenty of other NC makers) would love to have Hamlet blending for them right now. Rob, Rob and Hammy are long time friends, so its not surprising he chose to work with people he knows/trusts right out of the gate. 2
dshot Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 I've smoked both. Totally different kinds of blends IMO. Nudies are way better if CC's are your thing. 3
bishop532 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Not too similar but I did enjoy his 25th Robusto blend a lot
El Presidente Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I think RP got the number 2 cigar in the CA 25 this year. They have come a long way.
SpecialK Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 @El Presidente would you be amenable to a smaller sampler size for the nudies in the upcoming 24:24 cycles ? Say 5 packs or 10 packs ?

Chas.Alpha Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 I found virtually nothing in common between the RP Hamlets and Nudies. This isn't FOH bias or loyalty, just confirming fact. The Nudies I've had so far out class the RPH series. If I didn't believe so, I wouldn't say so... 1

The Hamlet line from RP is a budget stick, to hit a specific price point. It’s good-ish, but very much a one trick pony.

I've never seen any of the 17 cigars fall outside the $8-$15 range online, obviously a little pricier at B&Ms. I guess 8 bucks is considered "budget" these days though. A single cigarette costs that much in some countries now. Haha. They weren't all winners but they weren't all terrible cigars either. On average far better than most of the stuff that comes from that group. The Tabaquero blend was not for me, young, I think the OR cigars are aging into a nice place, but they were strong. I never really loved the 25th blend either, but the Liberation blend was pretty good, especially in the Toro size with the nice 109 style head. I've picked up quite a few in lieu of cutting fees at cigar lounges. 1

I remember the box of robustos was right about $80. I agree it was young and it didn’t make me mad, but at the same time didn’t cause me to buy another box. 1

I have the Tabaquero Robusto/Corona/Salomon. The Corona is my favourite but 7 years down they have all aged exceptionally well. They were a tad on the full side and unbalanced upon release. If you have a few of the originals, try them again now. The edges/elbows have gone. Hammy and I have spoken about that blend many times over the years. His first effort working with NC tobacco. Nic tobacco specifically. Many lessons were learned and ploughed into the other RP blends he blended/assisted blending. As always it is a learning process particularly when it comes to handling Nic ligero. When you are a blender, you need to have the mind of a slightly mad scientist. They are not factories but laboratories 2 1

Yup, Totally understood, I completely agree with Rob's comment that I quoted below. They were just too much fresh, but I think they're starting to come around. The three newer blends are very different from Tabaquero, again, not all great, but some very good. I went back and looked at the receipt for my initial purchase of them and you are right, they where cheap!! Not crazy cheap for the time, but looking back now, Its hard to believe. HSA is really pushing hard to skew our perspectives. 14 hours ago, El Presidente said: 7 years down they have all aged exceptionally well. Yup, I prefer the Salomones, but I completely agree otherwise. The whole blending process is just fascinating to me. I've only been lucky enough to mess with Cuban Tobacco, but I've heard several people say blending Cuban Tobacco is actually easier then blending NC Tobacco. There are so many more options and variables, I've never tasted NC leaf that has that underlying musty sweetness either.
HoyoFan Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 If anything, we should be thankful that Hamlet had the experience with Rocky when he did and produced those lines at that volume. I'm sure the learnings, failures, and successes from that experience have translated well into the Nudies we're enjoying now and in the future. 1

Correct--I have a box of Tabaquero buried deep in a tupperdor since I was not impressed with the first one I tried off the truck years ago... Thanks for the comments here. Now I have to find them.... 😀
