SCgarman Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 The exact reason why I relocated to South Carolina. No winter coat needed. I wear shorts 24/7/365 😇 4
jakebarnes Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Partly why I joined the cigar lounge I did. The other was to have a place to do work that wasn't my house. Either way, 15 minutes away and both quiet in certain rooms and full of people I enjoy the company of in others. 3

One of my favorite things when travelling to the US is spending as much time as possible in lounges. Great way to meet new people. 4
anacostiakat Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 We smoke in the front room. Cigars are an aroma. 1
Bigkahuna Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 A great ceiling mounted 240v patio heater and a screen porch is perfect 365. Even in northern US. Those heaters put out serious warmth. 1
Midas Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 -32c! And here I was complaining about -6c in London last week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

Sure. There are two primary points : 1- it needs to be on a dedicated circuit. The draw is pretty large and will overheat a shared circuit (even with a few lights). 2- it needs to be a 220/230v heater. The 110s are mediocre at best and maybe will give you a little heat if you are literally 2’ away. If you can get a dedicated 220/230v circuit then you can Google or go on Amazon for highest rated 230v heaters. They all tend to come from china. But the 230v are significantly better made and provide a massive increase in output. I’ve used one for several years in a screened porch outside in the PA winter and have never been cold once. In fact you’ll likely be a bit too warm after a few hours. Get the long flat wall mounted type so that you can angle it as needed. The ceiling circular style tend to spread the radiant warmth out over a large area and it gets wasted. You’ll be amazed at the difference. In an enclosed garage it will get to over 70 very quickly. Enjoy your new balmy winter lounge ! 1 1

I have a 40?k btu patio heater and a 15k additional heater and with both going, in a winter jacket and a blanket it gets too cold around 30 and below to actually enjoy it. Any breeze and the heat just blows away. A day with zero breeze (rare where we are) and it is much more enjoyable. Sometimes my body is warm but my hands can’t stay warm which turns my hands into bricks. Next project in the spring is a 12x22ft ‘lounge’ in the empty space above my free standing garage. Pre planned with 3 skylights already in place. Just need to insulate, Finnish the interior and add a split for heat and AC. I also need to figure out the venting / filtration to avoid odor. Hoping a rabbit air and some externally vented fans will be adequate. Only worry is the winter when drawing air out would cool the place down considerably. 1

Today, here irs now -3 with wind chill of -18F. The porch while not “warm” is 56F. Keep in mind it’s screened and not fully enclosed. I just finished my coffee there. This is in a 20 mph sun zero wind.

My infrareds in my pavilion are fine down to about 35F as long as there is little to no wind. But I've got no walls and just wrap it in tarps for the winter. But the open gabled ends in the roof let the cold air in like a waterfall which renders the heaters pretty useless. I'm still working a plan to seal it up more completely for the winter but that's tricky since it stays very windy here all winter. Now, I move into the heated garage once it gets below 40 here. Enjoyed a couple cigars out there yesterday; It was 65-70F in the garage and -1 outside with -35 wind-chill. 🥶 The shop heater is a little noisy but it's worth it for the job it does. 3
