this will only be of interest to lovers of the great game - an issue that pops up every now and again. and has been front and centre on cricket sites everywhere thanks to the recent women's game between england and india. the mankad. the last england batter being dismissed by the mankad. it is something that fires people up on both sides. i certainly have a view (will post but i don't want to influence) but i would be very interested in thoughts. fair or not (please try and take the fact that it happened against england and that anything that happens against england is fair, out of it).

When the mankad was removed from the game the distance the non-strikers were taking in front of the return crease at the bowler's end was ridiculous in limited-overs games, hence why it's come back into the game. It's the batsman's responsibility to stay behind the line with their bat until the ball is released in the bowler's delivery. It's not that hard.

john, in complete agreement. perfectly legit dismissal. and i say that as someone who was once mankad'd. i was trying to get an unfair advantage and i got what i deserved.

I call it a perfectly legal and acceptable form of dismissal. If you're out past your crease, you are fair game.

Yes in the rules. Very weak effort however  especially at that level .

Dean was constantly leaving her crease and walking a fair distance before the delivery was complete. I would say a weak effort on her part. How far along the pitch are you going to let her go?

Agreed. Like what's next? Can't throw out a runner in baseball taking a huge lead toward stealing second base?

I don't like it at all. I think the batsman needs to be warned. If the batsman chooses to ignore then it's legit in my view if the batsman has left the crease before delivery stride but I think it's a dirty trick to pretend to bowl and the batsman tries to leave the crease and time it with release of the ball. I was mankaded once but the opposition captain reversed it because the bowler was a bit unaware of the sensitive nature of the dismissal. Played a lot of indoor cricket in my 20's and it was open slather then. The ball was yellow and our keeper had yellow gloves and even he used to fool batsmen by throwing his glove and they'd look to back up and walk out of their crease. Dirty trick, but bloody funny. Thinking back now, putting fired up blokes in the close confines of a netted off cage and not expect fireworks. Ha ha! There was once an all in brawl in the cage. I remember standing back and laughing my head off. Totally ridiculous.

If your out of the crease by any amount then your out! It's pretty simple.

I agree that it can be handled by the bowler giving the batter a warning to feel like it's in a better spirit. Though that being said if your stumped should the keeper have not given you a warning first. I think not!

This is first class cricket . A D grade act . Just my 2 cents .

Exactly, it is first class cricket. Dean was taking an unfair advantage by moving ahead of her crease, making it more difficult for her to be run out at the striker's end.

Oh stop your rubbish. Its a grub act at this level. The batter takes stride with the bowler upon delivery. Acts like this at this level are just  shamful. If this happened regularly across all three formats it would be become an absolute shit show. It doesnt. 99.9 % of players have more class than this. For me and again its just my 2cents . Its weak and a very desperate act . Seen so very rarely at this level.
