traveller Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 I'm visiting both Frankfurt and Dusseldorf to look at some schools this week, but will be spending most of my time in Frankfurt. Looking for some recommendations for things to see, cultural, food wise, great bars, music venues. But mostly things that won't break the budget. 3
SpecialK Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 If you are flying in or out of Frankfurt.... be prepared for that classic German warmth in customs......

Warnth in Customs is an oxymoron unless you fly into Cuba where the female customs officials have a uniform of fishnet stockings and tight white blouses. I always have a chuckle. In Oz, Customs "warmth" involves being tasered and having your leg dry humped by the customs dog. 3 9
benfica_77 Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 German Border services at Frankfurt airport took my friend's oversized lollipop that he was bringing back for his sister. They deemed it a potential weapon....seeing my friend argue with the customs lady over a giant lollipop was amusing lol Also on a cigar note...frankfurt does have good shops at the airport to buy cigars at solid prices. Decent selection as well 2
RDB Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Whilst we’re on the topic of Frankfurt airport… it’s the only place I’ve ever felt really, uh, invaded by the security search. Maybe he was on probation and trying to show his boss how very, very thorough he was.

Webbo Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 In Dusseldorf Cigarworld is a nice place to buy a cuban cigar and have a smoke. The old town (Altstadt) by the river is definitely worth a visit with loads of great restaurants and small pubs and breweries selling the local Alt Bier, which is great. 2
Squarehead Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 When I flew into Frankfurt 6 yrs ago there was no sight of any security(Bundesgrenzschutz). As of cigar shopping I have no clue because I bought all my cigars at an LCdH in Stuttgart my hometown. However there's a cigarchain named 5th Avenue and I believe they're headquartered in Dusseldorf and have several shops throughout Germany

Don’t miss Altstadt with the local restaurants and Alt Bier. Almost every pub has their own version of Alt… perhaps one of my favorite beers on the continent, and almost impossible to find outside of Düsseldorf. I rarely buy CC in Europe, generally travel with my own sticks. So I can’t help you much with that.
