I've got the same box code and the few that I've tried have been pretty dull as well.  I think RyJ Churchills need lots of time so my boxes are at the bottom of the stash for now.  I remember when I received them that the aroma off the box filled the room so I'm hopeful time will heal....never know though.  I'll try 1 a year until they're gone or great.

Just smoked my first one yesterday, and totally agree with your opinion of them.

Extremely mild and flat in the first half.
Picked up a little bit in the second half, but I'm not interested in waiting 45 minutes for a Cigar to begin being a little enjoyable.
Definitely won't be buying any again.

A long cigar but a short review from me on this.  I have yet to get much out of my R&J Churchills from this box.  Not bad, just not a whole lot of depth or flavors.  One dimensional.

First third, light sweetness, woodiness and citrus.  Very light.  Pleasant, but needs a little more "umph" to capture my attention.

Second third, more of the same.  A little uptick in strength.  Plenty of smoke output and great burn.  Just flat flavor-wise.  Since it's a Churchill, I'm waiting for a crescendo.

Final third, and the crescendo never comes.  Honey-like sweetness, some creaminess, woody, lemongrass, and very clean.  Basically a warmer version of the first third.  Nice but uninspiring.

There is no luxardo or any other kind of cherries because that is a myth.  I've waited long enough for my White Whale, Sasquatch, Inverted Jenny, and the damn cherries from an R&J.  It does not exist.

I'm afraid this 2+ hour smoke was good for getting work done.  It was certainly not a distraction.

I give it a "C."

I cannot speak for the Churchills as I only have one unopened box but I can assure you that the cherry flavour from R&J's does indeed exist. Often I have wondered with some reviews and "buzzwords" that you hear often that maybe there is some kind of subliminal drip into the subconscious and we strive for the flavours we have heard others taste. But with many R&J no 4s I have had the cherry (or should I say cherry-jam) note is unmistakable, almost like a flavoured cigar the taste is so clear. Mostly the boxes I have are from Rob with a rosado red colour wrapper and by god the cherry is there in almost all of them.

Its a bummer to hear poor reviews of recent cigars. I've been working through a box each from 16, 17 and 18. I was also thinking about tapping into a MAR 07 10 count of Tubos for my birthday next week. I'll be a bit more particular when I need to re up.

I've had a very different experience from what you guys are describing. I wouldn't describe any of my examples as full bodied, but they've all had plenty of flavor. Beautiful wrappers, good construction, the whole package. They've been one of my go to cigars over the last couple years when I have the time and want something special. Not only because they've been so good, but because of how consistently all three boxes have delivered. I'm sure I'll pull a dud or two from each box, but it hasn't happened yet.

All three boxes show similar flavors. They also generate lots of palate coating smoke. Sweet cream, a fruitiness and some cinnamon/clove/nutmeg in the last third. Almost like Angle food cake with strawberries and whipped cream.

I'm not really a fan of Cherries or cherry flavored candy, etc. I don't pickup a distinct Cherry flavor, but there is definitely a fruit/berry note of some sort. I think people specifically calling Bing, Maraschino, Luxardo cherry in a review is a bit silly. You would have to have a seriously exceptional palate to actually differentiate. While I agree that I get a certain fruity, berry type flavor from good RyJ's I cant specifically claim cherry, raspberry, whatever.

So true. Some of the best for me were the 14's with the rosado wrappers. The deeper the red hue the deeper the cherry flavor. When you get an RyJ that is firing on on cylinders, they are hard to beat. Simply devine. I also have some cazadores that have that cherry flavor, but not as intense as the ex #4. This cherry flavor is not like the stone fruit flavor of a RASS.

Exactly this. Just finishing a box from 2014 too and they are all chewy thick cherry/strawberry jam.
