@Fuzz beat me to it, I just bought a new house and will be putting likely the 32” Big Bad in the mix. My brother in law has one and it’s a really well-built piece. The Kalamazoos are sweet too. I don’t think there’s a silver bullet when it comes to grilling. Ideally you have a number of options given various situations. I could never give up a gas grill for easy quick meals. Whatever brand you choose, the kamado-style setup gives you alot of options to play with when you have the time.

After waiting a couple of months for it to come in I took delivery of a Kamado Joe Classic III on the weekend.   Started simple by grilling some fresh hamburgers and they were delicious. Tonight we s

Bone in pork chops the other day and then a great steak dinner yesterday.

Not bad for a Tuesday night. Love the KJ, the ribs were amazing.

That's a 42" Serious Big Bad by Komodo Kamado, if you're wondering. Total cooking area is approx 1.37sqm, height about 140cm and weighs 765kg. (2118" cooking area, 55" tall and 1688lbs, for those who don't deal in metric)

That does look like it is about to blast off into space. Nice unit.

Nice! I wish I could justify the cost of a Komodo Kamado, but I just don't bbq often enough. Which colour Big Bad are you thinking of getting? I'm partial to the metallic bronze or cobalt blue pebble.

Funny I just made dinner on my Classic Joe. Use it all the time. Tonight made it hot as the sun and seared the crap out of the outside of the steak then moved it over to the heat deflector side to cook the innards. Just didn’t have the patience for the reverse sear tonight.

In addition to the classics I have made jerkey (get the extension rack and hang the meat off of bamboo sticks) and loads of wings.

there is a really nice closed FB group called Kamado Joe grilling and cooking I think. Nice folks. Lots of interesting stuff and direction in using the divide and conquer rack (which is great). Lots of decent YouTube from John stetzler I believe.

it’s another deep hole but your family will eat well

I’ve watched a lot of John’s videos and other videos along with lots of reading. Much like cigars when I decide to get into something, I’m all in.

Already having a blast.

The funny thing is that if you get the cooker you will bbq much more.  I gave my old pellet grill to a friend when I upgraded. he used to grill once a month - now he is up to twice a week.

I'm guessing you never move that sucker around. Looks beautiful!

Ordered it from a store in Toronto end of July but it took two months to get to front of the line with all the orders they had ahead of me. Nobody seems to have them in stock as demand outstrips supply.

I see several at Home Depot. Akron kamodo grill I think they are called.
How is it? I almost got one back in May.

I've got the big joe 2. Costco deal. First one delivered came cracked. They delivered another one couple weeks later. BTW, Big Block charcoal is cheapest from Costco deal. Load up when they have it.

I've got the Thermapro Signal for temp control. You can get the KJs pretty stable without, but i don't like the idea of an overnight low and slow going wrong because i slept through an alarm.

I've added the rotisserie as well. It's more of a novelty i think. But doing a shwarma on the KJ is pretty cool. Wings come out pretty well too.

Smoked my first brisket this past weekend. Not bad for my first. Rested a little too long because the family was out longer than expected before ready to eat.

My poor weber kettle, which has served me well for a decade, has been sitting there now. Relegated to a storage unit now (it's the performer model).

Congrats and I'm sure you'll enjoy your new KJ. The slo-roler is supposed to work really well.

I have a rotisserie for the Napoleon but could also get one for the KJ. No fuel bans here but I’ll keep the gas grill and see what happens; there may be times with a group when I’m smoking something in the KJ and grilling other things for the meal on the Napoleon. I also have the pizza oven accessory for the KJ so can’t wait to try that.

I've done pizzas without the attachment and they still turn out great! The dough is important. So much in that. It's another rabbit hole.

I‘ve seen other Kamado’s but had to wait for the KJ Classic III. Glad I did, so far so good.

Thanks for the tip on the Costco lump charcoal. I used the slo roller on the chicken and it seem to definitely work well. I’ll be doing some ribs soon and will use it again for that.

I’ve done pizza on the Napoleon and looking forward to trying the DoJoe on the KJ. Your right about the pizza dough, especially for high heat cooks.

Do you mean the Akorn Kamado Grill by Char-Griller?

AKORN® Kamado Charcoal Grill, Graphite | Char-Griller

That one is similar to the Big Steel Keg, in that it is a metal kamado as opposed to a ceramic one, but on a budget. There is nothing wrong with a steel kamado, and they do have a few benefits over their ceramic brethren (eg value for money, hold temp better, no chance of cracking), but there are also disadvantages (eg rust potential, once you go over temp it is very hard to bring it back down). Really comes down personal preference, but they are worth a punt.

Either the cobalt blue pebble or tile, the metallic bronze is awesome looking. I eve like the look of the matte black and I’m usually not a matte black fan. I grill alot and I just bought a house if all goes according to plan I’ll live in for 20+ years so I managed to justify the cost (I am good at that when I put my mind to it ?)

That thing is huge.  Mine can do 15-18 briskets depending on size.  How fuel efficient is that thing?  Wow it’s very nice must have been a pretty penny I’m sure.

Smoked some ribs on the KJ really enjoyed them. Plan on smoking a turkey for Canadian Thanksgiving.

I think that model is around USD10,000. I presume it would be highly inefficient if you were cooking the one steak, but if you're cooking for an army, it would be as efficient as any other kamado.

I’ve gotten very good at doing steak on the Napoleon gas grill using the Infrared burner at 1700f for 75 seconds per side and then move over to 500f to finish. Decided to do fresh sausages and USDA Prime Striploin on the KJ tonight. Set it up with indirect on one side with the standard grill in the top position and cast iron grate lower down on direct heat. Did the sausages first on indirect to mostly cook and direct to finish. Consistently the best sausages in Toronto and they were fabulous. Steaks I did direct around 500f for a total of 6 minutes and then indirect for a few more minutes. Perfect medium rare which is the way my wife likes it but I prefer mine on the rare side. Still very good but next time I’ll try to do better.

Tomorrow my daughter and son in law are over and I’m going to try to smoke a turkey. I hope it goes well.

Just remember to light the correct end, and don't draw too often, otherwise it will burn and become harsh. Not sure, but the draw may be a bit tight, unless you removed the innards. :P
