asmazda Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I have 2018 MUP box code of Hoyo petit robustos and 2018 MUP box code of Trinidad Reyes. They both taste the same to me, and unfortunately like dirt. Only difference is Hoyo dirt stronger than Trinidad. Are you guys and gals finding MUP box code is inferior or at least not true to the marca flavors?
lovethehaze Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I am have some Fundies MUP Sept 18 and MUP Jul 19. Gorgeous looking and smoking .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tstew75 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 Speaking of Trinis, the ARS code has been sooooo much better than MUP... 1
jackupster Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I have some MUP coloniales that are not as good as the ARS and some MUP Vigia that are as good as some RAG I have. It does seem that ARS is a better Trini code.
inter4alia Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I've been pretty happy with my MUP Fundies, Trova, and Reyes 2
jvd1291 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I've got a box of Cohiba siglo 1 that are MUP SEP 18 and quite good 1
StogieSteve23 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I finished one MUP and have two unopened MUP boxes of Punch La Isla. Aside from some tighter rolls/minimal construction issues, the flavors were very good for most of the box.
RDB Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 My only MUP box is an excellent ABR 18 box of Coloniales.

Assuming they are using the same tobacco and same "recipe" the only difference is the how it is rolled/construction issues.

If I read the original post correctly, he’s referring to cigars with MUP codes tasting like “dirt”. So my comment along with what others have said is that the cigars with that code don’t taste like dirt and was merely an opinion. I’m confused by your comment. 1
PigFish Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 MUP... Dirt...! I use ME MUP on ME DIRT all the time! Carry on! -Piggy 1
MrBirdman Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 I have a box of JUN 19 MUP Coloniales. The last wasn’t very good but I seem to recall earlier ones being better. Dry boxing another and will report back.

Sitting here trying that Coloniales and I must say it is definitely not as good as my MOL box. I wouldn't quite say it tastes like dirt but it does have an earthiness I wouldn't normally associate with Trinis.

I have had a few Trinidad before and never remembered it like this, so that is what prompted me to ask. The Hoyos with same box code is definitely much more pronounced earthiness than the Reyes, but the Reyes does have that same flavor profile. I wonder if they rolled both using leaves from the same farm? Anyway, thanks for trying the MUP box code and sharing your comparison.

And honestly as I get past the midway point that flavor is becoming more and more pronounced. Also worth noting, the RG on these looks a little big for a 44, and is definitely larger than my other box. I'd say in between a true Coloniales and a corona gorda. Draw is good though.

I put one of each in the drybox, smoked one last night and one the night before. The RAG had the typical Trini flavors of honey and shortbread and awesomeness. The MUP tasted like...well...DIRT. Let's say NOT your typical Trini flavors. Way more earthy than any Trinidad should be. So I'm not sure what's going on here, but I would have to agree w your assessment. I just ordered some Hoyo PRs; hoping they aren't MUP code now!! Good luck!
El Presidente Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 there you go.....and I thought MUP RAG ARS were all the same factory
T.52 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Well this might not help the situation....I have AUG 19 RAG Fundi's and SEP 19 MUP Coloniales. Both are smoking fantastic right now, especially the Coloniales! 1
Happy2BeHere Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I dunno, I’ve had Reyes from other box codes & Reyes ROTT from MUP 18 & they both have a fresh baked bread flavor to me. Will be interested to see how they are after some rest
Cairo Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 After reading this thread I decided to open my MUP July 2018 Coloniales box and see if they were ready to go. The smoke just tasted young to me, very young. The beginning was too strong (and yeah "muddy"), the middle had a weak Trini flavor trying to get out--clearly they need some more down time but I think there is great potential when the flavors blend properly. I will visit them again next year.
MrBirdman Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 An update on this topic - having smoked several more of my MUP Coloniales I can say this is the worst box of Trini I’ve owned. Some are barely smokeable. Is this GLE now? 1

Of course I've never licked dirt, but the taste reminds me of opening up a bag of plant soil, taking a deep breath, and imagining that taste. As others mentioned earlier in this thread, perhaps I should have better described as "Earthy" instead of dirt.
