Michael Schumacher had the similar kind of charitable spirit as George Michael.  Both are great people to me.

I can't stand Meghan Markle.  If I never saw her name or image ever again, I would be delighted!

I have no axe to grind here. But I have the luxury of living in a country divorced from royalty in the 1770's. I have never understood this mindset. There are a handful of people that I would like to meet and have a conversation with. I have little or no interest in most whom are considered celebrities.

I enjoyed your rant. -Ray

Not sure about your Royals, but I had a Davidoff Royal once.....It costed a ton of money, and did nothing for me. I suspect some similarities exist.

I'm neither pro or anti royals. I am puzzled as to why your queen is still technically our queen in 2020 (even if it's symbolical) however my understanding is that the royals bring in a lot more money than they cost the UK, therefore they are a positive economic force.

I also understand Harry is already a millionaire, and has 0.1% chance of ever ascending to the throne.

Considering what the life of a royal is (attending charity events, representing the royalty in grand dinners and so on) I certainly understand why they feel it wouldn't be a fulfilling life for them or their children. Megan worked all her life before, and I believe Harry served in the military, so they know what a normal life looks like.

To see the headlines of every UK newspaper today though, you'd think WW3 has started.

Much of what you've said it true.

My point is, I think Markle wants the platform to be taken seriously (like a latter day Diana) as some sort of Iconic figure of goodness and charity.   I think she wants the spotlight and the title for its uses, but not the negative aspects, and thats just BS.   Maybe i'm being massively cynical, but I think her interest in charitable causes, and womens rights, is less to do with those causes, and more to do with what she wants to be perceived as/respect as.

Like I said before, if they want to be average Joe's then great, I wholeheartedly support that.   If they want to graft away some prestige away, and titles from the royal family, to set up a charity, tax avoid etc etc.   I just think that would be contrived BS.      They should have a clean cut, ditch the titles, and make it on their own, without logos' with crowns on them.

I think that's what they want.

???? they have just set up website called "Sussexroyal"

The main thing that irritates me is celebrities not understanding the difference between

A, Them lending their name, support, money to a cause   (thumbs up good on them)

B, Them thinking they are Gandhi, and endlessly gushing how humbled they are, like they are accepting and Oscar   (thumbs down)

Bono made some good anthemic pop music,    but he is not a heavyweight in world politics.........thats what qualifications are for.

WW3? will be kid's stuff compared to what the british press will unleash. they do like their royals and woe betide anyone who besmirches them in any way. but there is none so reviled as one from within who attempts to tear down the structure. harry should have taken notice of great great uncle eddie!

the sooner we are a republic the better - insane that we are not (although whichever monarchist managed to put that monumental tosser fitzsimmons in control of the Australian Republicans pulled off a genius move). but for britain, it is their history (ours too, to an extent, of course) and their system of government. and it undoubtedly brings in massive, massive tourist dollars. and local dollars. there are a great many positives about the whole thing for the UK.

the problem is most of the imbecilic dimwits of which that dysfunctional family consists. not that we were not without warning. the madness of king george, the slightly inflated ego of henry 8, the extraordinary stupidity of edward 8 and his nazi connections, and a cast of supporting actors as bad - mountbatten and his proposed coup, andrew and the pedophiles, not to mention the strippers, harry dressing up as a nazi (in his position? seriously, i do not care if the bloke cures cancer, he will always remain an utter moron - still, i suppose if you do not have any actual royal blood and what is it about the connection of brit royals, running away, american divorcees and nazi connections?), diana and pretty much anything to do with her.

box of frogs in party hats crazy, the lot of them.

they have a few that break the mould - the current HM, i like Charles (met him many years ago and got to have a long chat and he was fabulous, a really decent guy and as down to earth as he could be in the circumstances), the eldest son (spare me, i have no idea of names) seems to understand his role.

but 'wouldn't wish the job on anyone'? oh boo hoo. cry me a river. sure, i would not choose it, but they are born into unimaginable wealth and privilege. automatic jobs for life. never want for anything.

shed a tear for this lot? or perhaps shed a tear for the millions of kids born into utter poverty and disease. born in ghettos and areas run by gangs. kids who have no future but crime and drugs. not some entitled, dimwitted, pompous grub who has lapped up everything it all offered and now decides, after he has made millions from the british public, through no skill or ability other than the good fortune of birth, to toss it all in and abandon his family, his country and his duty. how many sporting events around the world - world cups, cricket, whatever - has this pretender been seen at, lapping up life in the boxes? he took everything he could from it and now wants to run away.

i can't think of anyone i have less respect for. i sincerely hope the queen cuts him lose immediately, sues the crap out of him if he uses the word 'royal' in anything and makes certain he never sees another penny. or wastes the time of the security forces for an instant. though why anyone would bother wasting a bullet on the likes of him.

good riddance.

After watching The Crown, and his time in Wales, I do have a new found respect for him (even though my mother would cut my tongue out with a rusty spoon).  In addition his work on the climate is admirable.......less so the tax avoidance through the Duchy of Cornwall

yes, royals tax avoidance does seem a bit like hiding it from peter to avoid paying peter when peter would just give it back anyway.

I think the core point in this, which I think you've alluded to in "I would not choose it" is that, yes you can sit on a big golden throne, and eat foie gras till your own liver turns yellow and pops.......but living your life as a 'no mark' or as and 'also ran' is a given.     That would just kill me inside.  i could never do that.   Yes draped in silk sheets, but pointless caged bird non the less.         No amount of caviar would stop me hating myself..    Yes I feel more sorry for a child born into poverty, but it doesn't stop the royals life from being shitty.        It all really depends if they are psychopaths or not,   if they have no self awareness, it must be great, but if they have a shred of humanity, they must not like looking in the mirror.

sadly, this being a family site, and me being a responsible moderator, i am unable to do that.

can't point out the monumental hypocrisy of the grub in bleating endlessly about the nasty press but then using them for his purposes whenever it suits. basically it is the old story - well that is enough about me, what do you think of me!

oh, i'm the little brother. i don't get to be king. poor me. i have such a hard life. sure, the british people have spent millions on me but who deserves it more! and now, bugger them. i'll just dump the family, responsibility, country, duty and run off with the gold-digger du jour.

if the queen does not strip him of every royal title, link, connection, stipend, you name it, then my respect for her will plummet as well.

if there is a more selfish, self-centred human on this planet, thankfully i have not encountered them.

I have no dog in this fight being in the US, and my tax dollars don't support the Queen nor the royal family. (Thank God).

I can completely understand Harry's rationale for exiting the spotlight. Let's face it. He lost his mother to filthy lowlife paparazzi chasing her resulting in a tragic car crash. He has seen the negative effects of the British media on his wife. He doesn't want history repeating itself. I cannot fathom losing my Mother to tragic circumstances and if it brings them peace, joy and happiness then more power to them. As far as them making money off the family name, I cannot comment as how other's choose to make their money is none of my business and it is not my place to judge.

I think this is a fantastic opportunity for them. I can see the merchandising right now!!....

"Sussex Royal Toilet Paper. You deserve the best when you are on the throne."

"Be her king in the bedroom. Sussex Royal brand condoms."

"Sussex Royal Men's Apparel - 'I starred on the highly success television show "Suits". so I should know what makes a good suit' - Meghan Markle"

"Sussex Royal Fine Jewellery - Every girl deserves to be a princess."

"Sussex Royal Interior Design - We'll turn your home into a castle."

"Even when you are slumming it, feel like royalty with Sussex Royal Active Wear - 'They are comfortable whether lounging in my room, taking a stroll, or working in the garden' - Andrew Windsor. HMP Ford, West Sussex"

... I would make a comment about he Royal Honey line... but it might just cross into bad taste!

Cheers!

Knowing that you have no actual need of improvement, I thought that maybe you might have wanted to 'high-hat' the rest of us by showing it could be done! -LOL

The mistake is all mine! -R

PS,  I made no such resolution!
