hunterbeav Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Well it finally happened I found a Cuban I can't find anything in the cigar that I like. It was bound to happen. Has anybody had a good experience with this cigar. I'm not getting any of the peanut flavor that I was so looking forward to.... In fact I can't give you any flavor that I'm getting. $24.50 waste of time. I did smoke 1/2 of it before tossing....I have smoked Bolivars, Cohibas, El Ray , Hoyo de Monterrey, H Upmann, Montecristo, Partagas, Ramon Allones, San Cristobal and Trinidads...all young and they were are at least good...some great. I just can't find anything good to say about this one..... Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk 1
Jimmy_jack Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Remember it’s only one example. Try another one down the line and you may find it better 1
Fuzz Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I don't like Bolivars. Have tried many over the years, but none have ever been a "wow" cigar, and at best they have been just "meh". Doesn't mean that I will stop trying them. Keep trying Cuabas periodically. Could have just been a dud cigar, too young, poor storage, your taste buds were having a day off, or Cuabas just aren't for you. 3

I have smoked many, but never hit on a Boli I really enjoyed much. Same for the Cuaba. Never clicked. 1
El Presidente Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Cuaba Distinguido (Magnificent....the best) Cuaba Divino I pass on the rest. 2
WABOOM Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I have had a couple Cuaba that were poorly constructed but I've also smoked at least 10 that were really really good and I like them 1

nKostyan Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 This cigar never tasted like nuts. It has no distinct taste and aroma, this cigar is for meditation and requires the support of alcohol. 2 1

And that’s what’s so good about cigars. So many “experts” will tell you that X,Y & Z are “simply the best”. It’s all a matter of what tastes good to you. The best cigar is that which you enjoy the most. No other qualification is required. Except Cuaba. They’re just shit.? 2 2
99call Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 I have to say it. Didn't you put a thread up asking about Cuaba Solemones. And the consensus came back they're a big waste of time. And better go for either the distinguidos or the divinios?. Hats off for you for being stubborn, and basically trying whatever you want, but I have to say, I'm not surprised that was a less than ideal experience. I'm three cigars in to a box of Distinguidos LRG 17 and they are fabulous. And cheap! 1 1

Except Cuaba. They’re just shit.? Agreed. I’ve also found that many marcas and vitolas have changed since the y2k strain changes. Most notably for me, 3 of my old favorites. Psd4, RASS and BBF used to be 3 of my go-to favorite powerhouse cigars. Billowing smoke full of intensely powerful flavors. While i can still enjoy a RASS or psd4, they’re shells of their former selves, in my opinion. They just don’t have quite the oomph that I reminisce over. The BBF... ANGERS ME. It is so incredibly different from how I remember it, pre-y2k strains. While, on its own merits, it may be a perfectly enjoyable cigar, I can’t stand to smoke one anymore. They just remind me that they’re not what they used to be, and I can no longer enjoy them. That’s the beauty of these things though. Every cigar is an individual experience, not to be compared to the previous experiences with the same vitola ( @Kierkegaard - this is pertinent to your recent thread). It’s also part of the adventure for me. I started smoking habanos in 1996, and enjoyed a TON of really high quality (and some not so much) cigars. I took a hiatus from cigars between ~2006-2016 and missed a lot of the immediate changes in flavors that came about with the strain changes, as most lf my smoking stock through 2006 was pre-y2k production. Now, reentering the hobby, I get to try ‘old’ vitolas that are new to me. @awkwardPause shared 2 with me that stood out particularly. A VR famosos and an ERDM choix supreme. They both surprised me so much with their timbre, if you will, of flavors. The chocolatiness of the VR and the ‘old school LGC-ness’ of the ERDM - they were such a treat! Will I have that same experience next time i try those vitolas? Who knows?!? I get to discover that for myself. Per @99call ‘s comment, I will make a recommendation, if I may, to @hunterbeav . Make a couple of close friends on the board who seem to have similar (yet also divergent) palates to yours. Start a ‘cigar war’ with them. Send them gift cigars you think they’ll like. They’ll do the same. You’ll both likely end up trying, and loving, new cigars which you wouldn’t have been likely to try otherwise. This is also the beauty lf a good boxpass (and y’all KNOW how passionately I love a boxpass...). Instead of asking for advice from the community at large, and NOT following it, try a different approach. Develop a relationship with someone whose opinions you value. When they make a recommendation (perhaps in the form of a ‘cigar bomb’) just smoke it. You’ll be surprised by the things you didn’t know you would love. 1 1
BJRPorter Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Never heard anything good about Cuaba. If I smoked one it was not a memorable experience, good or bad. I’ve had burn issues with every marca, at some point. Back in the 90’s I used to smoke Right of the shelf. CC seemed heavier then, and so much more evolved than any NC available at the time. Was it the seed stock, or were the standards different? Now I smoke NC off the shelf, and let every CC rest. 1
Derboesekoenig Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Only reason I bought a box of these Salomones was the description on 24:24. Kinda hesitant to smoke one now...but they look absolutely gorgeous and perfect. I have never seen a Cuaba look this good. I'll let them rest some more before I try. 2
Notsocleaver Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 My first box of Cuaba Salomones were magical kaleidoscopes of flavor, one of my top 5 boxes ever and some of the most complex and interesting cigars I have ever smoked. The second was good, but never lived up to the first. I'd buy more, but the price keeps inching upwards of most of those big cigars and it just isn't worth it to me after they hit a certain price. 2
