Do it, but don't judge them based on smoking ROTT.  Then put the rest away for a long nap.  Try another one in 60-90 days if you're not able to long term age.  If good then, burn them down.  Caveat: store at 70dF/62% rH give or take a couple of degrees either way

Thanks for the advice....70 deg....I was getting a lot of advise on 63 to 65 deg.....do you keep it at 70 deg for aging or for every day...

Thanks currently at 63% humidity and 65 df...

Ohhh yes. I do it more often than not actually.

Same here, usually with positive results - maybe it's just the thrill of a new box since I'm relatively new to the CC world, but I've found that I usually enjoy them in the first few days, then they have to rest for a bit before they're good again.

Extreme example, Bolivar CJ about a month ago were so good ROTT that I smoked 6 in the first week... flat after that, so the remaining 2/3 are resting

My humi isn't temp controlled, but my house is centrally heated/cooled so it stays in a narrow range of 68-72 dF year round.  Ambient rH is usually around 55%-60% except in the winter when it can drop into the 45%-50% range.  If you haven't seen @PigFish videos on YouTube you should take the time to watch those, especially the two on the relationship between temp and rH.  His channel is Cigar Climatology.

I'm one for trying them ROTT unless they've been stored on the wetter side.

So I tried one of my new cigars Hoyo de Monterrey epi 2.....it smoked fine burn wise till I got to the last 3rd....it then became much softer And didn't want to stay burning....

So I'm assuming they were to moist to begin with but did not show that till later in the burn....

The flavors were a little peppery in the beginning which dropped off on the second third and became much more peppery in the final third...

I'm new to Cubans and don't have a lot of experience yet to describe flavors but it did have hay and chocolate with an earthy tobacco flavor throughout the cigar..

I'll let them rest 30 days and try another and let you know what happens to the flavors and burn...e52160cc2c316e023e07d452fe426074.jpg4553099224045ee8f80af8ff0767b7c7.jpg

I don't even try anymore, I just put them to sleep for a good long nap. Granted, my smoking environment is a lot more humid than some, but if you have to try one at least dry box for a few days.

I don’t do this, it s a waste of a cigar.
However what I do or don’t do, may not be anyone’s best advice. You see, every time you smoke a cigar you get experience that you did not have prior to smoking it. This is how one stops being dependent on ‘experts’ and becomes their own expert.
Experiences are therefore not a waste, where cigar can be wasted. It depends your level of experience and on if you are a slow learner or not...!
Vendor storage conditions and what shipping does to the condition of a cigar are rarely a positive for me. Experience has taught me this. I learned it by smoking cigars as soon as I got them. There was no other way. There is no other way to learn about cigar tastes then, other than by smoking them.
Congratulations on your first cigars. Welcome to the forum and always smoke good cigars when you have them to smoke.

Used to do it every time a new box arrived. Now they inadvertently get some rest anyway since I usually have another box of the same ones I’m still going through. I can’t truly tell the difference between ROTT and something that has been laid to rest for 3 months if they are within a reasonable production range. Sooo I don’t care either which way.

I had a Dantes EL last Thursday which was about as bland as a cigar could get. I just didn’t get it. And it had been in my humidor since early July. Wondering if I should grab more to try.

What are your storage conditions? Where do you live?

I always smoke one ROTT hahaha (unless it’s a 10 stick box of RE or LE)

I think depending on different sources they can perform quite differently.

Stuff from 24:24 always taste pretty damn good ROTT.

I’ve never ever had stuff coming from HK tasting good ROTT.

Smokes from Euro are pretty bad ROTT

I’m located in Asia.

I've never tried that, but I would assume they would smoke fine since they have basically been somewhat dry boxed for a few days...

Not really. The thing is, many vendors tend to store and ship "over" humidified. They do this because they'll be in transit without humidification, at least that is my theory. Now, depending on your environment, you may be able to get away with the limited "drying" that occurs in shipping, but my experience is that they're usually to damp still for my smoking preference, too many relights, bad taste, just leads to frustration. This doesn't mean every cigar you get will have these issues ROTT, but I simply find it better to avoid gambling and just stash them away for a few months.

Cigars are individuals mate. The next one, smoked tomorrow or next year could be great or a dud... That is the nature of the beast and a major complaint with Cuban cigars (amongst those who have noticed it...)

The last RA Superiores I smoked was amazing, very complex. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't remember all the flavor notes and what not, but I do remember it being a great smoke!
