Cohiba! I don't get it...

I'm a huge fan of thinner sticks. I was thinking of grabbing a few eplendidos, cce or siglo 3 or 4 to give it one more go before I give up on Cohiba.

I wouldn't fret over it, and I wouldn't spend much coin or time trying to second guess your taste buds. Everyone's tastes are unique and different, so if cohiba doesn't delight you just try another marquee. There is nothing wrong with that. Life is too short and smoking time is too valuable to waste on cigars that don't absolutely delight you. Move on and try othersuntil you find the cigars that really delight you,  and then load up on those.

Cohibas aren't expensive because they're anything special, they're expensive because they are the most sought after cigar simply because they were the official cigar of Fidel. Because people across the world desire a "Cohiba," for special occasions, even when they don't smoke at all, this allowed Cohiba to increase their prices significantly. It's simply a standard Cuban cigar with its own unique flavor profile, the pricetag doesn't reflect luxury, it reflects years of Cubans being a forbidden fruit and, "Cohiba," being the most famous marca that everyone and their mom knows of.

 

I personally like the flavor profile of Cohibas when they're done right, however, I don't think it's a better cigar than any other particular marca, it's just different.

We love Cohiba and they are Mr Beaver’s fave. A couple of years on a CoRo makes them divine, but we find the Medio Siglo to be fantastic right on delivery.

Rubbing off light mold should be no big deal. If the damage to the wrapper is a flap or something similar, we sometimes repair with a tiny bit of honey or move the band down to cover.

Yes, they are $$, but Siglo 3 is also my favorite. Once in a while. Just saying.

Cohiba is awesome. I like them much better than most Els and REs and for the money the marca provides a much better chance of getting a OMG box of cigars.  I have experience with the classics and the Siglos and think that well kept and aged they are my favorite smokes. The price has risen so dramatically in the last 4 years that I find it harder to pull the trigger on them than I used to. Add the fact that they really shine well after the five year mark and I can appreciate why a lot of people will dismiss them.

Feel free to your opinion brother and so glad you think so, but I think I disagree. 

(And look at this. Just as I am typing, @joeypots types too.

For several years I avoided Cohiba for exactly as you stated above, just as my whisky collection bottles stayed under $75. 

Now I only smoke the cigar I truly think is fantastic, many are Cohiba. One or two a day. I only live once.

And if a bottle of something something is $35 or $350, it is still only $2- $20 a serving while I am drinking it. And damn. Good stuff.

The vast majority of boxes in my humidor are Cohibas.  I love them.  

Sometimes they are not “on”, and to me they are still better than most other cigars.

Sometimes the are “on”, and they are amazing.

And sometimes they are “REALLY ON”, and when this happens, it is a heavenly experience.  It reminds me of why I smoke Cuban cigars in the first place.

But as Rob said, we all have different palates.  Some people swear by RASS, but every time I have one, I am disappointed.  And there is nothing wrong with that.  Some people like Coke, and some like Pepsi.  You dont buy Sony when you want RCA.

I often wish that I loved another, less expensive, Marca as much as I like Cohibas, so maybe the OP should consider himself lucky.

I love Cohiba and own a lot of them, but an outstanding Cohiba Robusto is no better than an outstanding Monte 2, they're just two very different cigars. Value wise, Cohiba gets out performed by a boat load of cigars, but if the flavor profile is what you enjoy, you're forced into paying the premium because there isn't anything like it. If the flavor profile isn't for you, you aren't going to enjoy it more just because you paid more.

So, for me this is the crux - it seems expectation exceeded result. Not enjoying the flavor of a flavorful cigar is one thing. Inconsistency of quality is another. Hype / expectation (especially as it relates to value), another still.

I'm not a huge fan, and have tried many, but that said, not many aged. For me, I enjoy the Secretos, of which I have 2 boxes of PSP from here, and 1 box of really nice Sig IIIs I grabbed in Cuba. Both of those, to me are VERY good. I did try a Talisman in Cuba, and it was only fair, but I did buy the box. Still undecided on to keep or sell. I could buy a few boxes of my favs, for what they are worth. Like many things we buy on life, they all have a value, depends on what we feel they are worth. Me, I typically will try and only buy the better stuff in Cuba, to keep cost lower, as in Canada taxes really increase the price. Over 100$ seems to be common for a Talisman up here....no thanks.At 31? I think cuc in Cuba, much easier to swallow.

I figure trying to like something you don't just because its perceived as the most popular seems counterproductive especially if it costs more than another version that you know you enjoy significantly more.  I will say that one oft these days I would like to try a Behike but I fell like because of availability that will be a long time from now.

I guess it is more curiosity on my part. When I read profile descriptions of Cohibas it sounds right up my alley and couple that with people saying how amazing they are and it makes me wonder if it is the examples I got or if I truly don't like Cohiba. Out of all the Cohibas I smoked I enjoyed the Behike 52 quite a bit but I would never consider paying its price point. The one I got was a very generous gift and I smoked it to celebrate the birth of my youngest son.

As many have said, everybody's pallete is different.

If you like the flavors of the Cohibas you have tried, grab a box of Siglo II's. They have been lights out the last few years. I blew through my '15 in just over a year and IMHO, worth every penny. I have '16, '17 and '18 boxes waiting in the wings. 

Worst case, if you dont like them, I can take them off your hands

I can see that, and for purely monetary reasons, I don`t really have a lot of Cohibas. But

But, as many, many people have said here, there is just nothing that tastes *like* a cohiba. 

It's not there is nothing better than a Cohiba.  (some would very much argue this case but that`s not the point) It's that there is really nothing that I tasted in my life that tastes like a Cohiba. 

Of course, on planet earth, it is for us all a value conversation and calculation. Is that unique taste, worth smoking 3 times less cigars, or giving up on other favorites? 

For me it's no most of the times, but for some others... 

Unless of course, you`re wealthy and then buy 2 box of every cigars and every marca and replace as needed.
