Popular Post 99call
Was lucky to pic up this quality, perfectly stored cigar from ayepatz on the UK box pass. Perfectly packed foot, nice enticing cold aroma, oily slightly brindle wrapper. Aroma cold, wet bark, molasses, bit of savoury salt pretzel. 1/3 First puff is a really clean fleeting bright raw virginia tobacco, (which as a past cigarette smoker, I really quite liked) and right of the bat indicates this should be a interesting smoke. The cigar gets into stride, and the half inch is a flourish all based around a sweet savoury aspect. astringent pecan skin, salty pretzel, burnt brioche, pipe tobacco, brown sugar. I'm really grateful that this is a departure from El Principes, as whilst many find them to be 'pancake' like, to me they remind me on my cheffing days of the smell of raw metallic egg whites or meringue. I see how they get there, but I find it an unpleasant egginess, as opposed to a good one. This is a different class, very nice 2/3 Bang!! rich dark Manuka honey, one of the best tastes i've had out of any cigar, but then this wanes into a little El Principe egginess. Gladly we quickly go back into Manuka, rich pipe tobacco, molasses, and wiffs of eucalyptus off the foot..........very very good. As this is a gifted cigar, I leave quite a long ash on, so i can comment on construction. it's perfect, but then bam! I get the first crotch ash attack of the year.....Iain I hold you personally responsible!!! 3/3 I tiny bit of tannic oak and wet bark. Something that hints towards hazelnut shell, without being directly nutty. The smoke becomes very thick and heavy, but the body does not strangely, like a muted version of the 2/3. very nice gentle end. Conclusion. Stunning 2/3 really quite something, and a very interesting 1/3. Would give it a solid 91-92 4 2
