Many years ago I smoked only one cigar a week on Sundays

Then it was a cigar every other day.

After my first trip to Havana last year, it was one cigar a day.

Since joining FOH six months ago ... I smoke 2-3 a day now. I’ve never crossed over to 4 a day, but it’s only a matter of time.

How many do you smoke a day? What’s “too many?”

Too many is when it starts playing havoc with your finances, family (time with kids and/or partner ), health etc. Don' t let a beautiful thing become an obsession

Kens having that problem now.  Cigar lovers from all over the world arrive in town and head straight to "the deck".  He is blinded by the camera flashes each time he goes to the mailbox.

Like you I started with 1-2 a week, then it moved to every other day, and now (and for the past year) it is one a day, and sometimes two. For me, too many seems to be two - the second smoke, just doesn't have the same taste or enjoyment if I have already smoked one in the day (regardless of the rest period in between). So I resist the temptation now to smoke a second stick, unless I have binned the first!

Do half coronas, pc's, minutos, etc count as 1/2 or 1/4 cigars in the equation?

If I smoke enough cigars in a day to kill my taste buds it's probably too many.

I'm retired so there are days when I have plenty of time to enjoy multiple cigars. Four is my daily limit if I have time.

There is definitely a limit to what my taste buds can take, a point of diminishing returns if you like. Usually around the 3 to 4 per day mark. Depending on size.

About one a day for me. Sometimes a few more on the weekends.

A PC or Minuto with morning coffee and larger sizes after lunch and dinner would be my max. Sometimes I will do back to back on weekend afternoons when the weather is right and drinks are flowing and the 1st cigar was too good to let end.

Usually I only have time for 1 per night on weekend nights (possibly 2 in the summer)

Last weekend I was herfin with big IG smokers and I smoked 3 on Saturday evening - I was smoked out and couldn't really say I appreciated the last or even second cigar. Alex custom lancero, followed by Bolivar RE Belux (huge Rodolfo) then an Epi 2.

My friend was getting through 6 a day whilst he was here! For me I struggle to do that many even when in Cuba!

So to answer the initial question - 2 is my limit in an evening, if spread out during the day prob 5 max with breaks and palate cleansing.

How many is too many in a day?  No real answer for that.....it more about what you have time for and what you can stand.  I never smoke a cigar for the sake of it...meaning, if I had 30-40 minutes to kill I would not look to smoke a quick cigar unless I wanted a cigar.  I also don't enjoy small cigars all that much, so having 60-90 minutes to enjoy the sizes I like limits how many I will smoke in a day.

I guess you need to let yourself be the guide that you have had enough.  If you are reaching for that 3rd, 4th, or 5th cigar and you have second thoughts about pulling it out of the humidor - you probably are done for the day.  :)

I’m typically at 5/week. It’s down to circumstance for me. I smoked 7 once on vacation but we sat on the beach from 8 am til midnight so I had time to enjoy each one and clear my palette. I recently moved and haven’t had one in over a week because I want to get everything unpacked so I can truly enjoy the cigar.

I'm smoking anywhere from 2-5 per week.  I was closer to 2 per week over the winter, and expect will be more like 5 or 6 with the warmer weather.  I will smoke 2 in the same day on occasion, like yesterday (first day over 80F this year).  Only time I ever smoke more than 2 in the same day would be at a herf.

At least one per day, planned, and if I have the time and the inclination I'll have another or two.

I drive a lot and if I'm doing distance I'll take a cigar or two accordingly. I've got a training workshop thing in the People's Republic of Yorkshire next week, driving up and back to London on the day, so that'll be a couple each way I think (RG Perla and El Principe, probably, but QD'O coronas are a good driving cigar too). And maybe one at lunchtime...

Back in '68, the Surgeon General in his big report classified "moderate" cigar smoking less than 5 cigars per day.  The report then went on to say that at that rate, mortality rates were about the same as the non-smoking group.  Below is the table from that famous report:

I think about this a lot when I see footage of Alejandro Robaina in the final years of his life. Cigars, Cigars, box signing, Cigars, Cigars etc. His sad glassy eyes seem to say, "please just leave me alone, I don't want to smoke, talk about, or even see a cigar today".

I smoke about twice a week and 3-4 cigars each of those nights. Generally, the largest cigar I smoke is a robusto. Now in the Summer I will probably smoke an average of 3-4 days a week, maybe 1-3 cigars a night.

My sincere advice would be that if you are smoking enough cigars to be worrried about whether you are smoking too often, then you probably are smoking too much.

That's good to know. I must just be projecting. I think if I had a steady supply of tourist at my house, every 25mins. I would of lasted about a week before walking into the sea.

Thanks for the responses! Believe it or not, this actually helps.

I’ve been doing Half Coronas, Short Partagas, Petit Coronas in the morning with coffee, a larger size like a Double Robusto, Churchill, or Lancero in the afternoon after lunch, and occasionally a Robusto or Corona Gorda in the evening after dinner.

Looks like the general consensus is one a day is not out of the ordinary and under the best circumstances could even have a second. After that, and I agree, I enjoy each a little less than I would otherwise.
