Too many is when it starts playing havoc with your finances, family (time with kids and/or partner ), health etc.

Don' t let a beautiful thing become an obsession

Well said. I think the only thing that I'd want to add to this is that if you are asking this question, how much is too much? and it becomes a conscious issue for you, then you are smoking too much.

Kens having that problem now.  Cigar lovers from all over the world arrive in town and head straight to "the deck".  He is blinded by the camera flashes each time he goes to the mailbox.

No such thing as a limit for this. Smoke as many as you want, as long as you are enjoying them. If it becomes a struggle to finish or no longer enjoyable then you have reached the "limit" for your daily intake.

Usually one a day for me during the week.

Weekends, I always find time for 1, and if more time permits, I will have 2. I try to space them out a little to give my taste buds a break.

If I'm on vacation, then it's as many as I have time for; the most I've had in a day on vacation has been 4.

Notice any loss in taste with that many? I think as long as I'm not struggling to keep them lit I'll be alright smoking that many. lol

I’m guessing most of us wouldn’t know what to do with a hashtag thingee even if it came with instructions.

Thanks for the responses! Believe it or not, this actually helps.

I’ve been doing Half Coronas, Short Partagas, Petit Coronas in the morning with coffee, a larger size like a Double Robusto, Churchill, or Lancero in the afternoon after lunch, and occasionally a Robusto or Corona Gorda in the evening after dinner.

Looks like the general consensus is one a day is not out of the ordinary and under the best circumstances could even have a second. After that, and I agree, I enjoy each a little less than I would otherwise.

Daily and not weekly you asked. There are other threads about weekly.

In one day my max was 5 big cigars but you can imagine in which Island I was. In other places I would say 3 is my max.

The issue is cigars are usually acompanied with booze, lots of booze. Without It probably more.

Ahahh

I am not a hashtag guy but the millenials are like Gremlins and they love #'s.

Let's face the fact: we are getting old (and wiser... some say... (not to me...))

It's a slippery slope. I say live large & drink/smoke what you can justify or afford without crossing over to obsession or addiction. Enjoy life in balance. That being said I smoked 4 cigars tonight & a half bottle of Glenmorangie Signet. That's probably not being very balanced...

Your body tells you when you’ve had too much of anything. It’s up to you to acknowledge the symptoms. Whether it’s cigars, liquor, stress, or sleep... we pay the price for ignoring the signs

A cigar a day keeps the doctor away.

You have to let your body decide what is too much.  I know if I smoked cigars daily it would impact my cycling and exercise in general.  Is 5 cigars in a day "worse" than 1 cigar 5 days a week?  I think you'd need to weight the cigars smoked over a period to get better idea of how much you are smoking.

I seem to be a 2 or 3 a week guy and have been so for quite a while. I think there's a difference between smoking cigars for enjoyment and smoking to satisfy a nicotine craving. Too many burn my palate make the cigars less satisfying. I like to look forward to a cigar accompanying a relaxing evening or afternoon.

How many do you smoke a day? What’s “too many?”

Apologies I didn't read the entire thread but responding to the OP..

First question answered.. Me? I live in the midwest with HOT summers and COLD winters. I dont smoke in the heat or the cold. I smoke when it's temperate. Say.. 60ish-85ish typically but I do bend the rules.

Your second question.. My answer is rooted in the truth of this thread:

and this thread..

"Too Many" Per day is up to you..  My answer is more along the lines of "Too many in your Humidor.." Too many in your humidor happens when your stick burn rate is WAY slower than your acquisition rate, so much so that you run the risk of aging them out of their best time to smoke. That's part of the art of being a smart cigar herder. Figure out when they peak and smoke them then!

Cheers mate!

From a medical standpoint, all the studies I've read say that your risk factors for cancer double when you go over 5 cigars a day.

Any published info you could point me to? Love to share that with my Wife! ?

From a purely scientific (= not medical... :devil2:) standpoint - I fear you'll never find any study substantiating this. Or, putting it the other way round, you can find all kinds of smoking studies "proving" anything. If you (read: one) buy into such, and you need yourself being backed extrinsically in your decision to smoke cigars / or how many you smoke, then you'd better not smoke cigars at all. :cigar:

I’m at 2-3/day at the moment (yay to working from home and living in Cali) and don’t feel it’s too much. Wish I had more time :)

** What my brother-in-law smokes!  If I didn't put the kaibasch on it - he'd deplete my entire supply (of over 300) in less than a week. Yes - incredible -

I typically shoot for one a day.  Sometimes I smoke 2 or more.  It just depends on how much time I have to burn, and if I feel like it.  However, sometimes I go without smoking for up to several days at a time.  As far as how many cigars in a day is too many?  Whenever I feel guilty that I’ve burned too much cash, wasted too much time, or exposed my health to, let’s wait for it...A Terrible Cigar!  Let’s face it, cigars aren’t exactly great for your health, especially a Horrible Cigar!  However, I believe in moderation most the time, abstinence every now and again, and indulgence on occasion.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. I am only licensed to cut open cigars, and mock people who have their jimmies rustled when I point out they obtained fake Cuban cigars.

Sure, the best study that's been done, as far as I know, is one that was strictly controlled for cigar only participants.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199906103402301

Cigar smokers were further classified according to whether they smoked fewer than 5 cigars per day, 5 to 10 cigars per day, or more than 10 cigars per day.

Compared with never smokers, heavy cigar smokers were shown to have increased risks for several smoking related diseases. They had higher risks for heart disease (Relative Risk, RR = 1.6, 95% confidence interval, CI = 1.2 – 2.0), emphysema (RR = 2.3, CI = 1.4 – 3.7), oral and pharynx cancer (RR = 7.2, CI = 2.4 – 21.2), and lung cancer (RR = 3.2, CI = 1.01 – 10.4).

The good news: Moderate cigar smokers had only a slightly higher risk for heart disease (RR = 1.2, CI = 1.03 – 1.4). Those smoking fewer than 5 cigars daily had no significantly increased risks for stroke, emphysema, oral/pharynx cancer or lung cancer.

This study I take with a grain of salt, as it combines multiple studies, many of which did not control for cigar only smoke: https://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12889-015-1617-5

However their findings in general were the same. "Strong dose trends by cigars per day and inhalation level for primary cigar smoking were observed for oral, esophageal, laryngeal, and lung cancers."

Two or three a week due to family schedules. Having four kiddos takes a lot of time, energy, and money ?.  When I do have time to smoke, it’s a truly special moment and I soak up every minute of it.
