FidelCashflow Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Hi friends, As the title says, we're expecting our first child, a boy, in October. I have a handful of friends/family who are more into cigars, and a bunch that aren't. I want a cigar I can hand out to everyone that, a) everyone might be likely to smoke, I'm thinking a shorter, more mild smoke so the noobs don't keel over and, b) something that won't disappoint the cigar aficionados of the group. Any thoughts? I'm also looking for suggestions on custom bands, tubes, etc.? Regale me with stories of baby-themed, stogie goodness.
RijkdeGooier Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Fuente has a nice cigar with It’s a boy (blue) or girl (pink) cellophane wrappers. The smokes are mild and impecceable quality. 1
Diabolicalpherpher Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Find a box that coincides with the month and year your boy was conceived on. Jan 18 box? 1
tigger Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 I would consider a box of PLMC. Very tasty, but not a huge strain on your wallet...someone who doesn't smoke cigars is almost certain to take a few puffs and toss your gift. 1
Hammer Smokin' Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Cohiba Siglo I or Maduro 5 Secretos Both are great short sticks. And no one will snub their noes to a real Cohiba. edit: cheaper, simple option is a monty no. 4 1
NotLawReview Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Monte 4, Trinidad Reyes, QdO Coronas Claro 1
grizzlee Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Upmann Half Corona or San Cristobal El Principe might hit the mark with either group. Perhaps look for a box date of the month and year you were married. 1
TBird55 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Monte #2 with a couple years on it, nice cigar everyone will recognize, not to strong, flavorful. 1
Stump89 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 First off, Congratulations. I agree with the Monte 4, that will not disappoint. SLR Regios may be a good choice as well. Also agree with finding box dates that correspond with the important dates. We are expecting our 3rd girl, Hunter Rose, next month. Deciding to pick up some Romeo Cazadores because of the name. 1
Fuzz Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 For handing out, something nice but not too expensive (Monte 4, PLMC, Party Shorts, etc). For yourself, get something special (SLR DC, Lusi, CoLa, Sir Winnie, etc) with a box code that either relates to the conception or birth month. 1
Popular Post JohnInCleveland Posted April 25, 2018 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2018 Forget celebratory cigars for others... Smoke as many celebratory cigars as you can between now and October. It's a lot harder to find an hour or two for smoking with a 1 year old. I took 7 of them to Florida for a week and came back with 5. 8 1

Harsh, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to find some extra smoking time... 9
PapaDisco Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Lots of Robusto or PC options that would be widely appreciated (Monte 4, Siglo II, PSD4), although the occasion really calls for a Churchill or DC. You could certainly hand out a Churchill and just know that some will only be half smoked. And I'd skip the whole "get a box code from the month of conception" idea . . . "Here, have a cigar. This cigar was rolled the same month I . . ." you get the idea . . . 1

sjmistry Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 First and foremost, congratulations brother. I have been blessed and was in the same situation when my son was recently born in March. I did go the route of getting boxes stamped with the month we think the magic happened. There were some great posts that I gathered some info from before deciding, check them out below. Overall I went with something that I could find good quality, not too expensive and cigars that I enjoy and think others would as well. I also wanted to get something that others were saying are smoking great with minimum downtime. I ended up going with a box of SCDLH La Fuerza and a box of RASS. I will probably get something more premium when I start seeing the birth month boxes being offered. I hope that helps you and sets you off on the right path. Reality is, no matter what you choose it will be great because the whole situation and experience of having a child just makes everything better. -Shake 1
El Presidente Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Congrats Hard to go passed the Montecristo Petit Edmundo on such occasions. 1

cfc1016 Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Congrats! How am I the first to recommend RG Perlas??? It won’t be ‘too much cigar’ for those who don’t smoke regularly; it isn’t too full bodied for those who prefer a lighter smoke; as long as it’s well rested, it’s an experience that the most experienced vets are sure to appreciate; it’s not a huge time commitment for folks who are likely to mingle back and forth between multiple conversational groups. It’s perfect! Couldn’t hurt, also, to have a few robustos/coronas lying around (BRC and QDOC being the first that would come to my mind) for someone who says they’d prefer something bigger. BRC would offer a fuller-bodied experience for those who enjoy that/QDOC would offer lighter, milder smoke for those so inclined. 1
