I heard yesterday from a PCC mate that the SLR Serie A is now officially discontinued.

I am hoping that is it as "discontinued" as the Fonseca Number 1.

Still, a heads up if you can find them anywhere, pick them up.

RIP good friend :flower:

I agree.

Um, easy - Open Regatta / Master. Do those actually sell?   This thread needs more pics - an obit if you will:

Well, another one bites the dust.

One really never knows until it's confirmed but seeing as how the Fonseca No. 1 is the only cigar ever officially cut that never went away the chances are slim and none.

@El Presidente Just curious--what was the sales differential over the years between the Regios and the A when both were available? Was the Regios always just crushing the A?

Damn.  Was my best cigar experience to date.

The Regio outsells/outsold the A many times over. That is/was the same everywhere.

:( & . I had a feeling this day was coming, but I was hoping in vain that it wouldn't. Sad, so sad. Another favourite bites the dust.

Shame on HSA for discontinuing such a uniquely blended cigar.

I'll live in hope that I might be able to procure another box or cab before they disappear completely.

Sad indeed, but yes - quite different to the Fonseca 1, the Serie A hasn't been seen for quite a while. (Has there ever been a hiatus in the No.1 after 2012?). So I guess it's gone. By the same token - did you yet double check whether the des Dieux isn't also on that "list", Rob? I bet it is.  :thumbsdwn:

Doesn't surprise me. Haven't seen stock anywhere in quite a while. I did enjoy them quite a bit just not very often. I have always kept a box on hand. Best memory with this cigar was climbing to a peak in the Austrian Alps with a friend & smoking a SLR Serie A while taking in the majesty of the mountains & watching a herd of mountain goats. Bummer they are gone! PM me if anyone has a box they want to sell.

True, the Fonseca No. 1 was neither a limited production cigar nor ever gone for more than maybe 6 mos around 14 or 15.

All the other known limited production cigars have never been gone for more than 18 mos. to my recollection.

Now we have several cigars that are coming up on 4 years MIA: Hoyo DD, LGC MdO2, SLR DC. And three that hadn't been seen since 14 were recently cut--SLR SA, QdO I and JLPC. So this does not bode well for those not seen but not yet cut.

But I suppose if there's any chance of any of those reappearing it would be in 2018-2020 after these last two stellar crops where there should certainly be enough tobacco available to make anything they want to.

Dang, another sub 50 RG Havana bites the dust...Such a great vitola that plays so well with the Punch and JL blends. I personally love the size and wish all the marcas came in the format.

They were always on my list. But i never wanted to pull the trigger especially after getting the worst box ever from 2000. All plugged, no exceptions.

i will always remember the first SLR Serie A. It was a single that i smoked in 2009 from a 2001 box. Never in my life i found the same fruity/apricot flavor profile. It was amazing.

Too damn bad!

I suppose it might be better to just discontinue them than to trash their good name by making loosely rolled duds, pretending they remain what they used to be and putting them in a box! I don't have a lot of these left but they were a venerable cigar.

I am believing that most smokers would not know good cigar if it bit them on the lip! -Piggy

^^^This, Looks like HSA is on a warpath to get rid of all smaller RG vitolas from their brands, but why??? Such a shame....

I’ve got 2 from an 08 box I picked up in NZ. Been waiting for the weather to get nice again so I can put one to the test.

Agreed - this is one where it simply didn't sell - last boxes I saw were 2011 BD and they were just sitting.

The current HSA policy will lead to more and more cigars not going to "sell". HSA is taking the attention from the solid values and is inevitably going to kill the (concept of) local, the multi-local and the niche-brands (with the exception of Trini perhaps). A marca with one or even two vitolas is practically dead. I guess that's program. With Cohiba and Monte plus RyJ bringing in about half the revenue today (or whatever the current figure may be), tobacco needs to be shifted.

Not to beat the dead horse too much, they are simply following the money. If I was them, I'd do the same. Just look at that 50th anniversary humidor - 3 just hit inventory at cigarworld in Germany at roughly 300k euros each.
