CrankYanker Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I have been a big fan of the H. Upmann brand then I see this released yesterday. Aged Cubans in a Robusto. What are your thoughts? @El Presidente will you get any in stock? Release: H. Upmann Robustos Añejados (Aged Habanos) 30 November 2017 Releases Habanos Añejados have been aged in Cuba, in perfect conditions of preservation, for a minimum of five years H. Upmann Robustos Añejados will be available in all points of sales around the world in the next weeks Habanos, S.A. , presents to the market the H. Upmann Robustos Añejados. These Habanosalready rolled, aged in Cuba for 5 years or more, in perfect conditions of preservation, which has enabled them to gain shades and complexity without losing their initial organoleptic characteristics. The launching of H. Upmann RobustosAñejados (50 ring gauge x 124 mm length) provides continuity to the concept introduced earlier 2015 in two brands: Romeo y Julieta Pirámides Añejados (52 ring gauge x 156 mm long) and Montecristo Churchills Añejados (47 ring gauge x 178 mm long) followed by Partagás Coronas Gordas Añejados (46 ring gauge x 143 mm length) and Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos Nº4 (48 ring gauge x 127 mm length) in 2016. H. Upmann Robustos Añejados is presented as aSpecial Edition in limited quantities which make them unique. The Habanos have undergone an ageing process of between 5 and 8 years. Through the ageing process the cigars have become rounder and mellower to the palate, getting touches of wood taste thanks to the years of rest with the cedar protecting it. H. Upmann Robustos Añejados does not exist in the standard portfolio of the brand. Only used as 2012 Edición Limitada and when it was launched in a Travel humidor exclusively designed for Duty Free and Travel Retail Channels, with a great acceptance. The Robustos size is highly appreciated by Habanossmokers. On this occasion, it is an offer for those who like thick ring gauges and light to medium flavour Habanos and have the opportunity to taste this aged Habano which will be at the market with a limited availability. Habanos Añejados are commercialized in their original boxes, which remained unlabeled during the entire ageing process and that have been dressed with the corresponding labelling of each brand to be introduced to the market. These Habanos are presented in labelled boxes, with double ring, external stick with the legend “Añejados” and with a vitolina describing the concept. On the bottom of the box the date when the Habanos were made can be verified. “Revisado” (Checked) is also stamped on the bottom of the box, since 100% of the boxes have been opened and all the cigars have been checked one by one. H. Upmann Robustos Añejados will be available at the outlets around the world in the coming weeks. H. Upmann Robustos Añejados Brand: H. Seems they are heavily behind schedule with production... Edit: I am enjoying the 2012 EL, so will certainly try these, too. But usually pricing is a no-go with these Anejados. 3

These were announced in 2016, the cigars were already rolled and waiting to be shipped out..... so why the delay? I know it’s habanos S.A and Cuba being Cuba but still. 1

Miguel: Er, we have a problem...we miscalculated the humidors. We made far too few. What are we going to do with all these robustos? Jose: For heaven's sake [or Spanish equivalent] !! Just stick them in the warehouse until we figure something out. [Havana, sometime in 2012]: Miguel: Er, we have a problem. Have you seen the latest batch of Upmann Robustos LEs? The wrappers are far too pale; they don't look like LEs at all! Jose: For heaven's sake [or Spanish equivalent] !! Just stick them in the warehouse until we figure something out. [Havana, sometime in 2016]: Miguel: Er, we have a problem. They just inspected the warehouse and found all those Upmann robustos. What are we going to do? Jose: Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Miguel & Jose: Anejados!! Jose: Make sure the marketing folks make a big deal out of their age. Let's see...2008...2012...say "aged 5 to 8 years". [Havana, later in 2016]: Jose: What's the holdup on the release of those Upmann Anejados? Miguel: Well, it's hard to remove those Edicion Limitada labels from those boxes we're reusing... Jose: For heaven's sake [or Spanish equivalent] !! 11 4
alloy Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Light to medium flavor? Sounds like the HdM anejados. I have tried the MC churchill and Partagas anejados. Not terrible, just did not like them. Light and not much flavor except tobacco. High priced no go for me.

NSXCIGAR Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Thoughts are that the chances these will be better than either the Royal Robustos or the 12 EL OR even a recent production Connie 1 is about the same as monkeys flying out of my arse. 3 1

Probably another winner like all the other Anejados releases.... 1 1 1
TheGipper Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Well, I'll chime in from the Unpopular Opinion Dept... In my book, these have a 50% chance of being fantastic. The Monte Churchills and Party CGs...fantastic. The Hoyo and RyJ Anejados...not so much.
clutch5150 Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 The ONLY Anejados program smoke so far that I really could taste the difference and are quite good is the Partagas line of these. 1
Notsocleaver Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I have definitely been a fan of Upmanns rolled around that time period. People here were raving about how 2011 Connie 1s were a hidden gem not too long ago. How much worse could these be?
Cubadust Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I would love to try one out, an Upmann robusto really pique my interest. The "Añejados" part, though. Not so much. But hey, you never know I actually quite enjoyed the Partagas one.
PapaDisco Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Both the Partagas and the Montecristo Anejados were quite good. And I like Upmann, so will definitely give these a go.
Benzopyrene Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 The price on these anejado series cigars are what gets me......the cigars arent good enough IMO to warrant the mark up 1
dangolf18 Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 These could be good...we'll see how they compare to the 54, my favorite current production HU. The Partagas Anejados was a cracker. 1

If anything like the 2012 Robusto LE....winner. If anything like the Upmann leather Humidor Robusto.....brilliant. If anything like the Hoyo De Monterrey Hermoso No 4 Anejado......they will have another loser on their hands. 3
JayHabanos Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 The Anejados are usually not worth the mark up on price. There are plenty of regular production Habanos that are better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

There are plenty of regular production Habanos that are better That's the actual issue I - and I guess most S/BOTLs here - have with that Anejados-program. I don't care for the aging aspect. What I care for is the cigar. Give me fresh HURO with a mix of the blends of the Robo LE, the Travel case and the late PC, perhaps add a pinch of Mag 56 (for those who love them ), packed in 25-dbx and/or in a 50 cab. Price it decently below the RR, and I shall be a happy camper. Aging I am doing myself (ha - ha, pun intended...), why to pay extra for a questionable "service"? A service that has been the standard in former times (not to that extent, but...), but now is demanding a hefty, truly hefty upcharge? To what avail? It is not as if Oomphmanns would need 5 or even 8 years of aging before they can be enjoyed. So, why pay extra only to miss out on the joyful aspects of youth in a younger H. Upmann? Age them a year and then let me decide when to dive in. This program is just another way of generating revenue from nothing. 1
Lotusguy Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Despite my scepticism, this is one Anejados release that I will give more than a couple of shots - just because of the minuscule chance that they are actually similar to the fantastic travel humidor release cigars. 1

My thoughts exactly. This one I'm trying, although not really keeping my hopes up.

In Cuba some cigars are better values than others. Party Maduro No. 1s were a little over $200 there but good luck finding them at trusted world vendors for less than $300. RA Superiores for $55. Nuff said. But Monte 2 is also a little over $200 in Cuba. I've seen Rob sell them close to that price recently. Still, it's too much for me. I think the Anejados are above average at best and some are downright below standard. I smoked the RyJ Piramides at the Partagas Festival the week before last and I thought it was actually very good but I would not pay more than $10/stick for it. Regardless of the legitimacy of the program if I'm going to spend premium coin I want premium quality and the Anejados aren't it I'm afraid. The cigars just aren't that good and there are so many options available especially with a model like an HU Robusto. All the Anejados are still readily available at most trusted vendors at prices the same or lower than when they debuted and that should tell you all you need to know about the general perception of quality on these. Eventually, they'll sell and HSA will have made a killing on some mediocre tobacco they would have struggled to unload another way. Cigar alchemy. 1
