Ken Gargett Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 RIP Tom Petty. what a great act. saw him in London with Dylan. fabulous. loved his stuff. that said, although we have a big report here in the paper, i see the NYT says a tom paley, a singer, passed away and there are other reports that it can't be confirmed. so hope i have not jumped the gun, although be nice for him. 1
CrankYanker Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Had a heart attack at his house last night and was rushed to the hospital. Some news outlets said he passed away and some habe not confirmed. LAPD has not confirmed yet.
Buck14 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 New reports out of L.A. Petty apparently had heart attack and is unconscious but no definitive confirmation of his death. I went to the 40th Anniversary Tour in Austin, Texas, USA this year. BEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME! 1
ReelMan Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Regardless of whether he has passed or not, Tom Petty pretty much wrote a body of work that mirrors my life. Each song release and each album resonated at various times throughout my struggles, heartbreaks, joys and sorrows. Ken, I am sure that Bruce connects to you on some emotional plane. 1
Fugu Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Just about to start a thread.... another report: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/oct/02/rock-star-tom-petty-dies-heart-attack
Buck14 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Well, I was gonna hit the gym and be good tonight, but with this news time to get the Bourbon and a handful of Cubans and hit the roof deck for my own Tom Petty concert! 3

Just had an hour of Tom Petty live concert on the radio - incidentally shared with a great BCE....
Fuzz AI Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Last report I read said he was on life support, but they had turned it off. RIP Tom Petty.
madandana Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 RIP. Saw him with Dylan and Greatfull Dead. I believe it was the first concert in the Metro dome. Great artist and great guy from what I understand.
anacostiakat Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 WOW. Horrible. RIP A lot of great songs. Silence of the Lambs!

oliverdst Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I think he is still alive. And not just in our hearts.
Westside Threat Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Really surprised a CNN breaking news alert hasn't gone out yet
Ken Gargett Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 wikipedia, so it must be right, says reports of his passing have been retracted as they can't be confirmed. it claims the cardiac arrest was on october 1. his website claims to direct to a concert on the 2nd but then actually sends you to earlier concerts?? so all a bit strange.
Jfeath74 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 There are conflicting reports, most state that he is still on life support. Either way my thoughts are with Tom and his family, one of my all time favorites. Picture is a tweet from Tom's daughter ripping into Rolling Stone.

You really think that's his f**ing daughter posting such f**ing s**t while her beloved dad is in hospital fighting death?!! I'd say f**ing "fake news".

Fugu Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 A shame and sorry for her if true - hard to imagine for me posting in such an expletive "stile" when I were in the same situation. She must be pissed or really pissed.
Buck14 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Typical Main Stream Media BS in the USA. The press’ motto in the USA is “Better to be WRONG FIRST than RIGHT SECOND” Press has too much freedom in the USA with no accountability at all. Well, either Tom is dead or in really bad shape. Time to select my Cubans, Bourbon and grab my Tom Petty music collection for a marathon listening session! 1
Tave1225 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Sad loss. Saw him live this past summer in NYC and he was great. Terrible.
Bartolomeo Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 RIP Tom Petty, one of my favorite artists of all times, I use to cut his grass in college at his Gainesville home where he is from, I am very sad today learning of this news.....#GainesvilleLegend

Hypersomniac Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I saw him about 12 years ago. Mavis Staples opened for him. One of the best concerts I have ever been to. He is a legend.

I want reporters and the heads of news agencies to be civilly and criminally accountable for reporting false news, period. This is NOT about the government censoring TRUTHFUL news.

This is NOT about the government censoring TRUTHFUL news. Who do you think prosecutes criminal offenses if not the government? Or enacts laws stipulating what constitutes a crime for that matter? Civil penalties for libel and slander are extensive and well-established, too.
