I've started a cigar club at work and we meet once a month for lunch, booze and cigars. Between 5 and 10 people typically attend.

I supply the cigars most days and would like to take CCs but want to stay economical about it. What would you guys recommend?

People are not big smokers so I'm looking for something casual and easy to smoke.

Help would be appreciated.

H Upmann Connie #1 or Juan Lopez #1s would be high on my list for this purpose. If small ring gauge cigars are acceptable, the Boli PC is a tasty little bugger and fairly economical.

JLP Cazadores, are a great economical cigars, Nice bit of strength, and great cuban twang

don't however opt for their little brother, the JLP petit cazadores, (truly awful cigars)

I cant speak for myself, but there are a lot of guys on here enjoying the Fonseca Number 1, could be a nice light/cheap option?

Great pick.  The modern production has been really good.  Just got a box recently as well!

Montecristo No. 3 or 4 are classics.

The M4 was my first thought as well - though they don't always smoke "easy".

Is it a lunch break, actually? There have been cigars even made with that particular setting in mind, such as the lovely but gone ERDM Lunch Club or the Small Club Coronas. So, the format, I guess, will depend much on the time slot available to you guys. If you don't have to continue working after all the booze :lol3: and cigars, then I guess you are rather free in choice... Otherwise, and given the non-regular smokers, as has been proposed, I'd go with the more classic formats, Minutos, Marevas, Coronas, that don't demand too much of commitment (a Lonsdale/Cazzie might be overwhelming already), and can be very satisfying. At least for starters, you will see where your club is heading over time.

Have fun, sounds like a nice undertaking!

Thanks all.

It usually ends up in a slow work afternoon so there's freedom to enjoy a nice cigar.

I'd go with a Punch Punch.  Great smokes and pretty reasonably priced

I would buy some on clearance days some really great deals.  Around Christmas time if your a holiday guy buy a box of something really awesome to pass around maybe a little bit longer of a cigar like a partagas Luis or something

I would start sharing the burden and all bring great cigars.

That's phase 2 after I get them all addicted. :)

I think most of the sticks mentioned here would be lost on novices quite honestly. JL, PLPC, Punch Punch and BPC are not cigars that most who aren't acclimated to CCs--let alone cigars in general--would find enjoyable and most of those aren't what I'd call particularly economical either. Punch Punch is a $10 cigar for goodness sake.

I'd recommend something a little tamer. RyJ Mille Fleurs or Regalias de Londres are a great well-priced option and cigars that are easy to smoke. I'd also toss in RG Perlas or Panetelas, Hoyo Palmas Extra, HU Coronas Minor & Coronas Junior, LFDC PC and most Vegueros models as very well priced and easy to smoke cigars that would be appealing to everyone that are also all priced very, very well at ~$2-4 each.

I also think that JLP and Quintero, while great values to be sure, can be a little "rustic" for a novice CC smoker. I'd be looking for something a bit more refined and less complex like the options I've mentioned above.

I brought a collection of RASS and RASCC to a work party where I was the only experienced Havana-phile amidst a group of 8 or so dilettantes.  The cigars went over great; while dedicated CC smokers think of those as being rather strong, they're not really much compared to Padrons, Fuente Añejo/Opus or Liga Privada, so none of my friends were overwhelmed.

Cigars with great presentation like the RyJ Coronitas en Cedros or Bolivar tubos are another solid option.

Again, I'm not sure exactly what the OP considers economical, but RASS and RASCC would fall into the category of premium priced IMO. There's a lot of cigars I would have recommended like HdM Epi 1 and 2, RASS, Party Short, or RGPC that I just consider premium priced and left off my list.

I'd also add that I think the RyJ Coronitas en Cedros have been pretty peppy lately (although they have been very good) and maybe a tad strong for a novice. And the Boli Tubos are definitely going to be a bit strong for a novice and are certainly not economical at $7/stick for the No. 2 and nearly $8 for the No.1. The No. 3 is definitely not a cigar I'd recommend for a novice as it's the strongest of the three IMO and the small Placeras vitola for $4-5/stick is a terrible value.

San Cristobal Principe always seen to hit the mark with newcomers and seasoned cigar lovers alike. If you only have 45 minutes...perfect.
