El Presidente Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I received the below e-mail and to be honest it is not really in my field of expertise. I just don't get to smoke enough of the cigars he is talking about to provide an intelligent response. it would be great if you could lend a hand and I will direct him here From your experience, which cigars hit the bill for you. Briefly what is it about them that you enjoy (flavour characteristics), what should he expect. Cheers! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hi Rob I know you love the basic line of petit corona and corona but are there any of the Upmann, Romeo y Julieta, Partagas, Hoyo De monterrey mareva or similar size cheapies that come anywhere close to delivering a high quality smoking experience? I am not talking about the H. Upmann or Romeo Julieta PC etc but rather things like the majestics, mille fleur etc I am tight on funds after a few things hit hard at the beginning of this year. Any help would me appreciated.
Bulldog4 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Its not on the list but por larranaga panetelas are usually a great bargain take some resting but for the price they are excellent. 2
Popular Post NSXCIGAR Posted March 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 22, 2017 I would direct this person to the "Cheap & Cheerful" forum as there are quite a few discussions that pertain exactly to this question. That being said, I'd have to put the HU Majestics right at the top of the list, along with Party Aristocrats and PL Panetelas. All three are very good, and tremendous values. The RyJ MF is usually mentioned along with these, but I have no idea how recent production is smoking. When they're on, they also represent a great value. 5
JohnS Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Yes, the cheap and cheerful thread that @phreedh has started has great reviews... http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/topic/123687-phreedhs-cheap-cheerful-mini-reviews-thread/#comment-615701
stogieluver Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 PLP's, PL Montecarlos, RyJ Cazadores, and even the super cheap JP Cazadores. All cheap and cheerful. 1
ComancheKeen Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I'll throw my hat in for PLP's. I've got boxes under a year old that are smoking great. They can be prone to tight draws though. Had my first Majestic last night and it was great. Much better than the few Regalias I've had. I also recommend Quintero Brevas and RGPE's for more cheap and cheerful goodness.
Philc2001 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Mareva-ish size, right? Monte #5 and Cuaba Divinos for me have been delicious, though not all that cheap. Now, for cheap, but not mareva size I would point you to the PL Montecarlos. 1
Popular Post Smallclub Posted March 23, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2017 There is a multitude of Partagas in these sizes (cremas, mareva/pc, coronitas, petit cetros, etc.); most of them are rather good, albeit on the rustic side of the marca. Some of them are really strong (Super Partagas, Aristocrats). I always have a box of them in my stash… I also like the Hoyo Palmas Extra and the Upmann Majestic but to be honest they're not always true to their marca… The many RyJ offerings are more true to the marca IMO. All these cigars offer an excellent Q/P ratio; when you smoke a minimum of 7 cigars per week, you "must" have some of them in your rotation. 6
Kbb Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I would recommend a two fold approach. Instead of reducing quality due to cost, simply smoke less of the quality and fill in the gaps with ultra cheap (swisher sweets) sticks if you want a certain quantity of smoke time. Unless of course, I have missed the original intent.
stinkhead Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 RyJ Coranitas en cedero more then reasonable in price and can be enjoyed in any situation. 1

Popular Post Jeremy Festa Posted March 23, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2017 Rafael Gonzalez PC are awesome, and generally a touch more affordable than the global marcas. 8

Expand Quit telling people about RGPC....they might discon...not even gonna say it. Seriously though they are excellent excellent cigars. The 4 I enjoy most lately are (in order) the RASCC, the RGPC, SP Non Plus and the Party Short. Seriously great and consistent cigars all of them. I'm on a RYJ Mille Fleurs kick too at the moment, and also I'll second the PLPs. I think one could buy all these boxes for around one box of Capuletos. No brainer for me. 3
Duxnutz Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Yeah Ryj Mille Fleurs, RG PCs and Sancho Panza non plus are my regulars in this size and are often more enjoyable than a way bigger cigar. Also highly rated for me are the Partagas Habaneros and Coronas Senior Tubo. 1
BuzzArd Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Boli tubos #3 may not be ultra cheap, but they definitely hit abouve their weight class for me.
Danimalia Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Upmann Majestics have been good to me. Never had an HUPC, so I can't compare them to that specific mareva, but overall, I would say they deliver a comparable smoking experience to other marevas. I've enjoyed a couple of PL Montecarlos recently ROTT, and though nothing similar in terms of shape, the price is right. ~75 minutes of smoking time, with some complexity to it. They're good. 1

Expand Boli Tubos No 3 are a terrible value (about 25% more expensive per gram than the BPC, for example) and the Placeras is a very small vitola. However, I believe it is the best Bolivar, at least in terms of blend, in current production, just a tad better than the No 1 and No 2 because it's a bit stronger. Unfortunately, I can't stand it's size. I wish the No 1 was as strong. But the No 3 is too damn small. It is an underrated little firecracker, though. 3
helix Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Majestics smoke way above there price point . FWIW they made CA's top spot for the size a couple years ago . 1
Thomasdenaro Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 i would say the PLP's or majestics as well. 1
